Now that makes sense , I couldn’t get my head around how you could get the adjustments with such different products. Now I know Arrow make versions of the the headers with or without the sensors it makes sense. I’ll sleep better tonight now
I’m confused, Arrow only make 2 headers either keeping the catalyst or not, both have the sensors. Are you sure your mates aren’t Leo Vince or another make..or decided not to fit the sensors ?
So am I, they are definitely Arrow and have no boss for the sensors, we have used the o2 connection blanks supplied with the PCV I fitted them for him and they 100% came out of an Arrow box
Hi there. If you just want a nicer sound put SC Project exhausts on it. They look good and sound good, and with the silencers removed they sound heavenly without becoming extremely loud. The Thruxton has more than enough power as it is.
Now then, I have a Thruxton 1200R with Vance and Hines (after market Triumph option) silencers with the baffles removed and with a Boosterplug fitted. Already done a couple of thousand miles like that and the sound is completely unobtrusive. Only downside of the bike is the low speed pick-up coming out of slow speed bends or roundabouts where you have to use a judicious amount of throttle. Ordered theTec de-cat X pipe Friday, fitted it Saturday afternoon in about three hours, having seen the Tec video and some others. Did it on my own with the help of a rear paddock stand and the cat (pussy type)! As some of the other comments on here state, it is more difficult on the Thruxton for a few reasons but things to note are that the frame rail on the left hand side has to be freed off; the header pipes have a balance pipe in front of the radiator and I found the simplest things to do were remove the left header, loosen the right one and remove both silencers (to give access to the clamps on the cat/X pipe); also free off the tank and disconnect the left lambda sensor at the loom. There's no substitute for taking your time and stopping now and again for a quick slurp and to ease the brain fatigue. Once it's all stripped down, easy to fit after that. Make sure you're careful not to tear the graphite gaskets, put the clamps on the right way round and no point refitting the o.e. heat shield (I've a Palmer Products sump guard fitted). Anyway, once it's all back together, it definitely sounds throatier and the low speed pick-up us much improved; no kangarooing out of bends any more and there's more mid-range, making an already fantastic bike into an even better one!!! Win-win, totally happy except there's nothing to look at, it's all hidden out of the way!
Have a read here: https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/thruxton-r-power-commander-5-custom-map.15984/#post-223911 You don't have to do any other mods but it'd very good idea to address the wayward AFR. These bikes are boderline too lean (Euro 4 to thank for that) and the infamous 12 minute tune isn't the silver bullet that many think it is. If you completely remove the right hand frame rail as well as loosening the left one you'll do yourself an enormous favour. And get a 14mm flexible head ratchet spanner, a godsend of a spanner. This thread shows it being used on my T100 and also a cautionary word on X pipe choices. https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/t120-x-pipe-de-cat.14773/page-2#post-217246
I have a pair of remus mufflers fitted to my r i really prefered the shape then i fitted a x pipe, a resl bugger of a job as i did not remove the frame rail. Is quite load, and "cackles" a lot on overrun but sounds pretty good.
Booked in for 1st service on Saturday, Dealer is also fitting a x pipe (to go with my V&H) I tried to ask about a remap, they looked at me puzzled and said no need !?!
I’m sure my bike would suit most people but I hate the on off throttle snatch I get that’s why I’m fitting the power commander but no you don’t have too
The ecu will get flashed in the service anyway, and triumph will have a map they use for bikes with V&H exhausts, thats what i was told by my dealer anyway, also that was for the louder US spec pipes, , i have researched this and heard them on you tube and the general feeling is that EU spec ones wont be much louder than the standard pipes, however as you are having an x pipe fitted then she should sound like a beast, an actual raging beast.
The EU spec V&H aren’t much louder than standard but are a little bit but they do give a deeper more bass sound
As I guessed... I would have preferred the US spec V&H, but when I was researching the bike I couldn’t find an easy way of buying them, then got the UK version ‘thrown in’ with the deal on a new bike. TBH I like the way the bike sounds as is, it’s certainly a long way from the Jap ‘sewing machines’ Cheers Mr frog, I’m liking your words.... bring on ‘t beast
They used to stock the US spec at all dealers then Triumph decided against the idea for some reason and now you can only get UK spec here, I personally think they should still sell them with a waiver to say you know they’re not legal on UK roads.
BTW I’ve had both UK and US on mine and the US is quantifiably louder but the sound is very similar and the removal of the cat must add volume, after I change my downpipes I may need to put the baffle back in
Oh yes mr fast, i hope one day someone here with a thruxton will organise a big thruxton meet up, wouldnt it be fantastic to have a few laps around the thruxton race coarse, 100 of them roaring down the back straight… just imagine the sound.
No you wouldnt Glyn, once that adrenaline started flowing you would be up at the front battling for the lead.
Hey Glyn , i probably asked you this before, i want to get a paddock stand, i know its quite important to get the right ones as regards how far the back wheel lifts off the ground, which ones do you have and where can i get, i dont want to spend too much as i won't use too often, just for cleaning and lubing the chain etc and a new tyre soon hahahaaa Hope you have some nice weather over there like we have…...
