The USA is very large, and quite a good bit of the southwestern half is very sparsely populated with few places to rest, eat a decent meal or even get fuel. Forget about a nice B&B. It's 1200 miles to the coast for me, 700 miles to the mountains. Not great riding in 100+ temperature and 25 mph or higher crosswinds on good days. Highways are horrible and littered with broken vehicle parts, blown out truck tire carcasses, and 2 liter bottles of truckers piss. And endless 18 wheeler traffic. You can call me a wanker cause I haul my bikes to good riding spots with a RV (caravan) self contained land yacht. With a copilot I can easily run non stop for 1200 miles and arrive fully rested. 10.4 liter turbo catipillar engine just loafs along for the most part until you hit the mountains and have to slow down to 60-65 mph on long steep climbs. It's a beast and with my eye level slightly more than 8 feet above the road I have a good view. 11-12 mpg with bike trailer but no need for cafes or lodging, unless a really good cafe becons, then I take a break.
