Got my new Steamer running properly last night.
Turns out the right-hand airbox snorkel should be blanked off - mine was open.

I didn't think it would make any difference, but blanking it off has transformed the power delivery!

It now charges like a rhino! Big grin....

    Morning,
This may be the right place to ask about steamers, so....I've enjoyed a years worth of biking on my 1996 steamer, however, I have always struggled with chain adjustment and also the angle of the lower chain slider BG...does anyone have and ideas?

    Hey Rick! (Geddit?) Sorreeee..

No, nothing was ever actually organised. If it's left to me then it ain't gonna happen this year - too much work on the house! It would be good to get a meetup organised, however informal. My Steamer's still in storage and likely to need some recommissioning work when it's finally retrieved.

I'min Devon but close to the Somerset border (between Tivvy and Wellington) so, if you're ever out this way drop me a pm and I'll let you have the address - be nice to meet up and see the beast!

    Hi
I am new to forums so please be patient.

I have just acquired an M Reg Tiger 900 with only 3383 miles ... however it’s been standing somewhere damp since 1997 and is going to need lots of TLC.
I think I will be here often.
Especially as some errant mice have at one time made a new home.

    Hi Tig
    have you any pics?
Apart from anything else you'll probably need a new petcock and take the carbs apart and put new O rings in. I "de-constructed" my air filter, cleaned it up, and put that back together again too. Then there's the clutch and brake systems (maybe more seals), oil and filter (should be easy), rear chain, rear shock, front forks, cooling fluid/pump....to be fair you're a brave man taking on so much work!
But it would be very interesting to see a rebuild and the issues you come come up against. FWIW I used Sprint Manufacturing and found them to be very helpful.

Quick question for you knowledgeable people. I’m doing an oil change on my Steamer, how much oil should it take & what should I see on the dip stick? Appreciate your help

4 litres Semi Synthetic marks on the dipstick are 0.5 litre apart, and the dip stick needs to be screwed right in to measure.

Next question. Just had the carbs cleaned out and new air box. Fitted it all back on to the bike and it idles lovely but as soon as you give it some revs, it splutters and dies?? I’ve cleaned the tank, changed the fuel tap & replaced the fuel line so am sure I’ve not put fresh crap into the carbs. Any ideas?

Good question..... Honest answer, I don’t know? I gave them to a guy in a garage to clean them out, I’ll have to check with him. If not, can I assume that’s the way to go next? Thanks for your advice.

Steamerblue, you my friend are a f#%king genius!!! I decided to have a go myself so bought a sonic cleaner, stripped them down again and put them through, except this time I replaced the O’rings and now it’s running like a dream. Thanks so much for the advice!! All I’ve got to do now is put it all back together just in time for the winter thanks again!!

Well done on getting the steamer going
Mines running fine now I’m using it as much as the weather permits
I feel a bit left out in the midlands
You all seem to be from down south
If you all do go for a meet let me know I don’t mind travelling
