    Hiyo, Speedie riders.

    Have any of you done a "heritage" swap of your 2011+ foxeye headlights for round headlamps?

    I am looking to try this on my 2013 Speed Triple R.

    I am seeking advice on avoiding pitfalls with the mounting and wiring of this conversion

    p.s. I asked the local Triumph dealer how much for a pair of the lovely new Rocket 3 headlights.

    I've done it, see my old post here - back-to-the-future-with-1-21-gigawatts. I've actually done it twice now as the wife's Street Triple is also done now. It's not going to be cheap as I don't think you can avoid buying the following Genuine Triumph parts....
    • Headlight Bowl Assy x2
      T2700634 (I think it's only available in chrome - I painted black)
    • Ring support x2
      T2700559
    • Headlight Centre Pivot
      T2700569 (it's shorter than Dame Edna/Fox eyes)
    • Rim, Headlamp, Black x2
      T2700618 (no longer available, but I got non-OE from https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303912142240)
    If you're going LED there are plenty of 5-3/4" units available, mostly from China and it's a bit pot luck getting a good pair (I've returned some before getting acceptable quality). Unfortunately the seller I got mine from (good bright DRL and beam patterns) is no longer listed, the wife's has the advantage of adding amber (indicator) option but not as bright DRL.
    In the process on my bike I've also added three switches to add the options of "hazard lights" (not OE fit to my year), headlight off, and linked left and right DRL to indicators, it really depends whether those are of interest and on your electrical/wiring abilities.

    @Col_C : thank you for chiming in, and yes, your experience is exactly what I am seeking!

    In the image below circled with blue "A" is this part:

    T2700569 Headlight Center Pivot, 2010 Speed Triple OEM Headlight
    ($51.34 USD)

    This is the part I was hoping to achieve by repurposing my 2013's existing center pivot.

    Are the dimensions of your stock pivot and the T2700569 pivot really different?

    Yes, hole centres on the fox-eyes are definitely further apart, not by a lot, but IMO noticeable and looks wrong when converting to round.

    Edit: and you might have a problem with clearance to fork stanchion with wider set bowls.

    And the foxeye brackets sit ABOVE the stock center pivot instead of wrapping around it.

    Hmmm...

    If I could live with the wider positioning, could I shim and grommet the incoming brackets to fit the stock center pivot?

    OK, good news and bad news.

    I just did some prelim test-fitting of these aftermarket 5.75" buckets I acquired.

    Good News:

    -I can easily overcome this delta of (21-14) mm. I can just use shim washers and grommets to bridge the gap between the stock 2013 center pivot 14mm and these 21 mm bucket brackets:

    BAD NEWS:

    The stock centre pivot positions the round headlamps at least 1.5" too far rearward :(

    These pictures may not convey the appearance fully; the rear of the housing buckets are nearly touching my Swedish forks :(

    I see three options:

    1 ) live with the round lights pushed too far rearwards. (no)

    2 ) buy the complete subframe assembly from an appropriate older Speedie/Streetie so that it has the mounting dimensions of classic triples.

    3 ) fabricate two 1.5" cantilevers that will mount onto the stock center pivots at 14.5mm height, and connect to the buckets that are 21 mm bracket height.

    Hmmm...

    Here is part of the reason for the undesirable rearward offset:

    • The Triumph OEM heritage buckets have their brackets at position "A".

    • My aftermarket buckets have their brackets at position "B".

    I could fork up the coin to buy the whole Triumph OEM subframe assy with center pivot and buckets. But I'm hardheaded and want to build cantilevers now, LOLOL

    Yes, been there, done that. :laughing::joy:
    The cheap "Bates" headlight shells won't work without significant alterations, and don't forget to check fork clearances on full lock. :)
    But you don't need to change the subframe, the short/long centre pivots are interchangeable within the subframes, the earlier subframe would probably have different mountings for the different instrument cluster anyway.

    Yes, the subframe swap possibility is a favorite for some Speedie riders looking to lower their headlights and dashboard. I personally like the existing dashboard height.

    To start with Healtech didn't do one that plugged in to the OBD socket for ABS equipped S3's and I didn't feel it worth the agro of fitting a wheel sensor for their only option at that time. Then I had one of the first batch they did that ran off the OBD and it was a bit flaky, but good customer service and they replaced it with an updated version which has been faultless. The only criticism I can make is that it will not show gear changes until revs rise above 2000, however it also senses when in neutral and I think assumes first gear as it moves off neutral.
    The coloured lights are actually switches, red = hazard lights, white = DRL only, green = DRL's synch'd to indicators. I'm fairly sure synch'd DRL is illegal (but actually draws attention so of benefit), so I am able to deactivate the feature when required.

    Where do I go to buy such lovely switches? And how much will my wiring harness grow if I add such DRL and hazard buttons?

    Here's an example of the switches I used.
    You'll need to tap in to the 3 wires that go to the indicator switch, there's a connector to the main loom on the left side under the tank. You'll need diodes and miniature relays to achieve all the functions I added, it all fits inside the flyscreen.

    I'm really interested in following this up. My next four weeks is going to weird. We Canadians will have to cram a lot of riding in when the weather clears. I'll binge the kilometers while I can. But when the sky starts pouring again, I'll tinker in the garage.

    Electrical scares me, though. I don't understand it enough.
