Darkman probably preaching to the converted here. but always use good gearbox pawl retainers (split pins) as if they fail you cannot get the outer gbox cover off
Progress is slow as finding the last few parts has been a challenge as was getting the engineering work done, should have barrels crank and head back next week hopefully. Pics of head prior to having new inserts fitted for exhaust stubs and welding up a crack.
At last i have the barrels head and crank back from Patric at Seager Eng after he did a fantastic job on repairing the head, boring the barrels and grinding the crank for me, now i just have to clean it all and the assembly can start
I use Wellseal as used by Triumph brush it on both cases and let it flash off, bolt them together until i hear/see it squish out and wipe off with tissue straight away.
Cheers Duck, as if i don't have enough attention problems the very idea i could be a motorbike God is frightning at my age lol
Nice slow start to the day and fitted the cams and timed them along with PRV and new oil pump after thoroughly cleaning it out. New inlet cam fitted as old one was worn.
Fitted the NOS + 20 pistons and gapped the Goetze + 20 rings and bottom end done waiting for the newly rebored to + 20 barrels
I use all different specs/size dependant on year size etc and even what make of pistons, sorry i can't be more helpful. I didn't check with Patric At Seagers that did thease for me as we used NOS pistons so assumed he has used factory 0085 top and 003 bottom of skirt as its a later engine with +20's.
Interesting. The reason why I asked is,ok I know they’re totally different bikes/engines but I’ve got a set of rebored cylinders ready to go on my Yamaha RD250 due to the old ones needing cleaning and painting. The bikes not been on the road for a few years so it’s about time I did something about that thinks I The factory recommended clearance for my 250 and it’s the same for the 400 IIRC using oem pistons is 0.0015” at the skirt which is pretty tight. The problem with getting a rebore to that spec is that not many engineering companies can guarantee they can machine to that spec. Please keep the pictures and writes up coming
Very nice, i know nothing about 2 strokes as nice as they are to ride, surely the jap forums must have an answer for you ??
I’m a member of a couple of 2T forums/club and know a couple of companies that can achieve the required clearance. It’s just that I was interested to know what clearance you like for your machines and perhaps my post didn’t come across clearly. Its been about 50years since I’ve had anything to do with a 60’s Triumph with its top end off and was just curious as to clearances now
It's complicated as different piston manufactures give vastly different sizes that's why i like to find NOS Triumph pistons as i know they don't expand like the newer pistons that some spec at 0065 I hope you get it sorted
