Finished stripping the gearbox to day and found the main shaft had tried to punch its way out the box :-( prepped the bits ready to go off for machine work and stripped the spare head for welding and machine work. Head has a crack and req all valve seats n guides replacing along with both exhaust ports being welded and threaded for new stubs.
Have searched Hi & low for a rebuild-able 500 daytona powerplant, now any rebuild-able 500 will do. have the whole bike with a scrap bottom end, I'll be following.
I had the mainshaft bearing issue on my 500 Dark. It pop the retaining circlip. I thought it must be due to the use of a clutch hub extractor n hammer??? What are your thoughts
Quite poss an excited hammer user might have contributed but if puller is being used correctly it wouldn't put any pressure on bearing/clip. The hammer and its various colleagues are the biggest cause of engine butchery lol.
that is dedication, I take it you didn't use solvol and a rag for the outer casings LOL as your fingers would be somewhat sore now. I learnt the hard way to put a mop in a drill
I have just fitted my mop to a wall bracket to make life easier really need a bigger one now so i'm hoping a few more jobs will pay for a decent one
Don’t suppose you’ll be using the customary red hermatite Enjoying your thread darkman, keep it coming
Lol, i only use yamabond or welseal on crankcase halves and gaskets with a smear of grease on the rest as i find this works best.
Going slow at the mo, had to get some parts online for the 500 Daytona engine rebuild as the local shops are shut sadly, still waiting on barrels crank and head to come back. Usual high quality pics lol.
Relaxing day today cleaning the last few parts and fitted new kickstart pawl and needle roller ready for rebuild.
