Just wanted to follow up on the original post. This was pure <bad word>'n genius! I went for a good 100+ mile ride and had a few bits of grease from the chain on the wheel and some road goo on the bell pan. A light, very light, spray of WD40 on a paper towel and I was able to wipe the rims and pan free of all the gunk. Then I followed up with a light soap+water and dried it off. I'm a believer...
