The depression by the filler cap pulled out easily, and there are no dents in the tank, surprisingly.
Every job on a rebuild project is 90% preparation!
I use a cheap and cheerful body filler which is a two part polyester mastic. When these appeared in the late 70s they made repairs much easier.

Last week the prep work for the tank and front mudguard was done. Here they are ready for the top coat, which is a cellulose paint, same as Triumph used back in the 60s.

I am happy with how the front mudguard is turning out. Not ecstatic, just happy. The Grenadier red stripe went on today, and in a week or so when it is properly dry i will apply the gold line either side. No picture of the tank as it’s not good, and i may have to re-do it. :worried:

The end two inches of the front mudguard were rusted to metal with no paint, and had been painted in primer to protect them while in storage. There is a pic of the mudguard here: https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/tiger-90-rebuild.31008/page-15
I assumed  that the red strip went all the way to the end. Hey ho!

Looks like i will have to check what it should look like and overpaint a bit of the red.

Pre 68 bikes to the end like you have done :) I should have made it more clear in my comment :) 68 on only stopped before the end.

Front mudguard finished and fitted. I used screw head bolts, not the original hexagon head bolts, as I prefer the look of them.

New exhaust pipes and silencers, correct for the T90 rather than the Goldie style that it came with. The brackets for the down pipes are on their way.

Underside of the seat. It is rusted out along the edges, around the hinges and catch.

The best way forward was to buy a modern reproduction seat. This has a metal base (not fibre glass) but the metal is thinner than the original, so it flexes a bit. Still it looks great, so smiles all round.

Finished! There will be some things that come from a shake down on the road, but for now it calls for a celebration.
