I have the new Speedmaster and ride solo as my weight is 17+ stone. The rear shock preload is adjusted half way to cater for my weight. I seem to feel every bump in the road, anyone out there any thoughts or suggestions for improvement in ride comfort. I know the obvious is to lose 5 stone but don’t go there!
Be interested to know how you get on with this. I am also of a portly nature and would definitely benefit from a rear shock upgrade. When I picked my Speedmaster up, the shock was set to one and the ride home with the Mrs on the back was murder, felt every little bump I also have a Striple and had a Nitron shock fitted by a suspension specialist and it was set up for me, made a huge difference.
I have started a thread on Matris shock upgrade for my Speedmaster, front and rear https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/speedmaster-shock-upgrade.21948/
being built like a brick shithouse I had problems with shocks in the past, the last time for my bike I approached Hagon and told them the situation and after various questions they produced a shock for my build and riding requirements, and no it did not have a Landrover coil spring on it
Hi Don, is your bike a 1200 Speedmaster and if so, did the Hagon shock make a big difference? Was it worth the money, what sort of cost?
No mate its a 865, I mentioned it as a guide with any bike suspension is a compromise and a upgrade is always a benefit I chose Hagon because they are reasonable, rebuildable, British, and offer a build to spec service, its best to speak direct to them, hope this helps.
Hi @Drummer, we have success. At only initial load on the new mono, I have not bottomed out yet. Front has also been very smooth, so need to fine tune, but looking forward to trying Mrs Dartplayer on the back for preload test against standard for a pillion.
Went for a 2up ride with 170kg+ load and only had to adjust Matris mono preload up 3 rotations. You can see how much adjustment is left and the ride was smooth over sharp twisties, over hills, and some big straight roads with marginal surfaces. So happy
Thanks for that info Dartplayer, I missed your postings, and for some reason I got no notification that you had replied. Fortunately just stumbled across them. Pleased you are happier with the ride, is the improvement significant? When you get a minute can you let me know exactly what you fitted front and rear, and an idea of cost in NZ. A bit jealous of you now riding in the summer as you live in a lovely part of the world. Did a trip up west side and down east side of Coramandel a few years ago, but alas not on a bike. My lad lives in Wellington. Thanks again.
Drummer Just play with your shock till you find a happy medium. I myself usually talk to the peeps at Hagon. Just talking to them you can see just how committed they are to find the right setup for you and personally I have always been happy with their advice and build quality. Regards Joe.
@Drummer the link to the upgrade project https://www.thetriumphforum.com/threads/speedmaster-shock-upgrade for Matris dampers and mono. Hargon make a great mono replacement, but I wanted front and rear. Sourced from US, but you could source from Matris in Italy if you have logistics contacts.
Thanks to Dartplayer for info, have found the thread. Thanks to Joe Mac for his comments on playing with adjustments etc. Will play again when into riding season as have forgotten what bike feels like, and probably will touch base with Hagon at that time as they are home based. Don't feel I need to go to Italy supplier for advice etc. Thanks again boys for your input.
Drummer That's what its all about. Do keep us in the loop. Just a shame we are so far apart as my boy does all my suspension for me. He does it so simply due to the fact he races and you got to be able to tweak them here and there to suit tracks. But you will get there. Sometimes it does get tedious but you will find that happy medium. And yes I have spent ages on the phone to Hagon and they are terrific. Regards & Ride Safe. Joe.
