The ‘natural’ human condition is one of semi starvation - for millennia we were hunter gatherers. Agriculture is quite new in our evolutionary history. Refrigeration is even more recent unless you are Inuit. Before the Industrial Revolution agriculture was hard physical work.....for pretty much everybody. Now we produce carbohydrates very profitably on an industrial scale and munch them sitting down in heated or air conditioned structures. It takes a lot of gym to compensate for a sinful Jaffa cake......about 10 minutes pushing it! JD? Weeks! About 2 Jaffa cakes per pub shot. Excess carbs get stored as fat for the next famine. Excess proteins get ejected. Your body cannot convert them for storage unlike the carbohydrates. There is no magic - just obfuscation that, unless you have some sort of metabolic disorder, you need to balance intake and output. Carb producers from wheat, to brewing, to sugar don’t want to lose your custom. Like BT, they hedge their bets and try to get you one way or the other. You do know BT own Plusnet, EE etc.?
