Get yourself a Halfords Trade card :D, I get up to 90% off stuff !!!! Bosch wipers this week were £20 instead of £35, and bulbs are for pennies as opposed to pounds. Sometimes tools are cheaper using in store offers, but generally save around 25~30 % on most purchases.

I showed them my degree in engineering and that was evidence enough of a professional qualification to get a trade card for work (I teach automotive skills at secondary school).

A lot of my hand tools I find from boot sales and auto jumbles, pick a good quality (older) one that, with a bit of a clean up work as good as new for a fraction of the price...
Other than that, yes, it's got to be Aldi...

Most of my nut stranglers (open ended, ring and adjustable, were obtained over years of mechanical engineering, (ordering tools for work and a 'spare' for me) etc. Therefore I have some really nice nut stranglers, screwdrivers of all types and size, and various 'specials' such as a Vernier caliper, a 0-25mm micrometer, internal, external and odd-leg calipers and so on. The bestest of the lot is a truly professional metric/AF socket set I bought as a first year apprentice back in 1970 that is still in great condition and never fails. The big trick is to treat your tools properly, (don't chuck 'em about), give them a good clean and oil before you but them away, that way they last for yonks. ;)
