I've got an Abba stand but don't fancy their front stands,is it ok to use a front paddock stand that fits into the headstock along with my Abba stand, if so do you have any recommendations?
I use this n so far it's been ok. You can lift both front and rear off the ground simultaneously Since you already have the stand, you just need to invest in the front lift adapter http://abbastands.co.uk/product-detail.asp?item=front-lift-arm&pid=42
cheers, i had thought about the front abba stand, but it looks expensive for what you get, and wasn't to keen on having to attach a strap to the swing arm every time, but the bike does look stable enough with it
I've got an Abba stand too and also not smitten by a strap round swing-arm. Santa's bringing me one of these. Got to be better than a couple of bottle jacks under the fork legs I've managed with so far. I do run a ratchet strap under the top yoke and over a joist in the garage roof as insurance though.
i've been looking at similar ones,do you know if you need an adapter to fit in the speed triple headstock? in the picture it looks as if it's not thick enough..just noticed they give you a 13mm,15mm,16.5mm,17mm and 18mm pins so i'm guesing one of them should fit(not measured it yet)
You don't have to strap it through the swingarm. I have the - Triumph V1 Hub Spindle for Triumph Speed Triple/R (11 to 16). It's an extended Spindle (similar to the rear paddock stand which gets fed through the Hub), you just have to strap it to the extended Spindle
^^^ That's correct. I have R&G axle sliders. I just take them off as it's a 5 sec job ;-). But as you said I wouldn't be comfortable strapping directly through the swingarm. The front stand (Col_c) put up does look good. I guess you just need the right adaptor and you are good to go
I haven't checked size but I'd say as long as a pin goes in it doesn't have to be a great fit, don't imagine it can jump off too easily.
Front stand works well with an Abba stand, only thing I had to do was put about 10mm packers under the Abba stand to gain enough clearance under the back wheel. SWMBO's StreetTriple (lowered suspension) was fine without any packers, it has more space under back wheel when up on stand.
i got one of those front stands for xmas good quality stand, I've also had to do put something under the stand, it's not a problem though as I'll only be using the stand when the bikes laid up during the winter or if I'm taking the wheel off
I used the Abba stand with the attachment for raising the front wheel on my Fireblade. It was way more stable than any paddock stand I've ever used.
