Hi, I'm about to purchase a t100 black on 2016 plate that has 6300 miles on it... is that high mileage? How long do these engines go if you look after them. Thank you
Hi mate, if looked after and services was done then definitely nothing to concern you about. You will have plenty of miles to enjoy!
At toughly 3 years old and 6300 mi, it's considered low miles. But it also depends on how the bike was maintained and ridden. I would for sure see if the current owner (or dealership) has the maintenance records. It will be good piece of mind fir you.
People put to much in to this how many miles, as above how as she been looked after, her condition, me not really been a concern of mine when i buy a bike, at least all of the problems will hopefully been sorted by the time you take her
Welcome mate. Forget age/mileage. Look at service history and how well the bike has been looked after. Engines go on forever if properly serviced.
My 2016 Speed Triple is on 18,000 miles, 15,000 of which I have done in the last year. I commuted 60 miles a day 300 a week Used premium unleaded, Castrol fully synthetic oil changed each 6000 miles Used a Scottoiler on a new ZVMX chain on JT sprockets Cleaned her each weekend Treat her kind ride her well, no point keeping her safe and young for the next guy to ride... My 2010 Speed Triple had a very detailed record of oil, coolant, brake pad and brake fluid changes which I was able to pass onto the next owner, the bike was high mileage, but everything was documented and he knew there was nothing to worry about...
My SV650 had 21,000 miles at 3 years old, 24,000 when I chopped it in. Ran sweet as a nut, better than some bikes with less than half that. Get em used, they like it.
If you’re a dealer “that’s a bit high” (adjusts part exchange price way down accordingly) If you’re the owner (and it’s been looked after) no problem.
Barely run in. That engine is about as stressed as one of those old oil engines you see at steam rallies. Oil change and filters on schedule and I bet you the valves will be spot on at 30,000 miles

I have all ready put a answer in, but to add to this, and many of us older ones will be the same. When we started, a bike was all we could afford, so we did do a lot a miles, my early days would see easy 20,000 plus a year, we lived for our bikes
My 1996 Trophy has 72,400 + miles on the clock. Runs fine but as regular readers know I have had to overhaul carbs and a couple of other bits. Just routine maintenance though. As they say, better a high mileage well serviced bike than low mileage, no service one!
My 17 plate Street Twin is just approaching 15,000 miles and just gets better. Dealer serviced at 500 and 10,000. Not sure where the 20,000 will be done, I know a local race mechanic who I trust, depends if it is still in warranty.
You can ask for a higher mileage but then the payments are higher and I think the final value will be lower. My Sport is on a 6000 mile a year deal.
