The stem nut was chrome and I decided a black one would be more in keeping with the bike. I don't have a 38mm socket but do have a 41mm. The powdercoating needed protecting so with a vernier caliper I measured up various bits of plastic. The largest cable tie I had looked ideal. A careful torque to 90 nm and that was that bit sorted.
Very useful those lifts. I bought one but ended up stripping the threads from the worm drive. I got lazy and decided to raise it with an impact driver instead of hand cranking and that's probably what killed it so my bad! I had a small bottle jack lying around unused so a bit of modding gave me a lift that will now raise 2 tons! It doesn't go completely flat like before but still fits under the Triumph, just!
Not as often as I should! I once got sand in my balls on the beach which required a full strip and clean!
Yes buzz guns ( impact drivers) have their place and at times are ideal but the operator has to know his/her limitations. I knew a guy, who should have known better as a time served mechanic, who split wide open the end of a camshaft thus rendering it scrap by buzzing the sprocket bolt home
The 18v Milwaukee is one of the best powertools I've ever bought. I've yet to find a bolt or nut it can't tackle, and I've had some pearlers on the Land Cruiser. Loosening only though and definitely NOT for tightening, especially on the high torque setting. Great tools, when used wisely!
Back in the 90s a pal had a CP ( Chicago Pneumatics) 1/2" buzz gun and the Snap On dealer turned up. I told him I'd buy one of his now if it beat the CP. I set to in a vice with a 16mm bolt and both guns, tightening the bolt with one then the other undoing it. Repeatedly the CP was superior. The Snap On dealers face was a picture and he started making excuses about pipe bore sizes and compressor volumes. I had a pretty big compressor in those days and they were both running off the same pipe Needless to say I bought a CP and still have it. Odd drop of atf down the inlet and still good some 30 years on.
Not on my triumph but my triumph t-shirt instigated a conversation with a local whist queuing for airport security in Hannover. Triumph

50 mile local route I like for me this morning, just to get out on the bike. Bit wet and slippery out there and lots of diesel from one filling station but had a good time all the same!
Took the Street Cup out so I could run out the old fuel and get some fresh, stabilized stuff in it for winter storage. I like that the PO put in a good Li-ion battery so I don't need to worry about it losing its charge after many months of sitting. I also got to try out the Avon radials (front and rear) for the first time and they're way better than the OEM crap.
TRMCC Xmas party today, so we had our last JAFA ride, lead by the Wicked Elf. We managed 4 of Auckland’s west coast beaches, before thunder threatened. Great day, even went through a police checkpoint which had them laughing
I took advantage of a "weather window" today and after weeks of snow, rain and ice, finally got my bikes out of the garage again. The temperatures were at a cold -6 to - 3 degrees Celsius, but the roads were dry. Therefore, I'm first with my Honda and then with my Bonnie to 50 km each on different roads, up to a short stretch on the highway been on the road. With the heated grips and clothing, the temperatures were no problem. My feet were happy when I stayed home after the 2nd turn. Warmer weather has been forecast for the next few days, but there will be plenty of precipitation again. Therefore, the bikes remain in the garage until 2023 from now on.
