Not Me And Not Today . But recently My Cousin Alistair here in Australia on holidays from England. Testing out the new Centre Stand on his 1998 Triumph Adventurer ! Seems to be working fine! Beach sand is not the Forte of this model . He's having a great time up the coast in Geraldton WA at my brother's. cheers capt
Looks like a fun event with a nice assortment of bikes, @Mrs Visor! I love that Grom. Every time I see one I think they would be so fun to zip around on. If only we had just a wee bit more space in our garage but alas… I've test ridden those Indian FTR's twice and liked that model pretty well. I have to say I'm not keen on the mods on the one in your photos, however. I think of those in your pictures the Gypsy is my favorite. I love the welding on the headers. Do you happen to have a picture of the other side of it? I'll have to check out Zoe Cano's website and her books. Thanks for taking the time to post a report!
No photo of the other side I am afraid - I also have to admit I didn't like it at all! The Grom does look brilliant; the lad had got himself an apprenticeship and was spending his money on bits for it, including a carbon fibre exhaust his Dad said he was really proud of .
Commute today for me. A chilly 4c when I set off with the sun not coming up until I was well on my way to work - it was a lovely sunrise, but also a reminder that it won't be too long until I am taking advantage of the buttock - warming properties of the heated seats in my car as the route to work is a twisty, unlit, flooding and debris - prone one in the main so doing it in darkness would not offer much in the way of fun. Lovely mild, dry return journey .
Fitted new front wheel bearings today and went for a test ride Unfortunately the noise I hoped to fix was still there So did what I should have done originally and found a hill on a quiet country lane and freewheeled down with engine off and no helmet so I could hear. Dominant noise was a loud rattle from drive-chain sprocket. When I got home I had bike on paddock stand to spin the wheel and chain was very rattly from both sprockets and there was a humming noise from middle of chain run. I reckon when riding I’m hearing the humming noise and helmet with earplugs blocking the rattling part of the noise. To make sure there was nothing amiss, I had front sprocket cover off and wiggled the sprocket, just in case I hadn’t torqued it up properly when changing it. Sprocket was rock solid, so I guess I’ll just have to try and ignore the noise when riding.
How long has your chain been on? I just checked - I bought my bike with 15.000 miles on it, currently the odometer is showing 36.300 miles. So that's 21.300 miles of use, and I do not know how many miles were on that chain when I bought it. It's still fine, I reckon.
I replaced it (and sprockets) 3 months ago, it's done about 4,000 miles since and is adjusted and aligned right. I've just ordered bearings for rear and will replace those too when I get rear tyre replaced in a month or two. (Bike's done 45k miles and now I've bought tools for fitting bearings seems wise to change rear too.)
I hope you somehow finally get that noise figured out, @brown mouse. An undiagnosed noise from an unknown source can be so aggravating and it seems to wind up being a focal point of attention each time you ride the bike. Fingers crossed that you get it sorted.
In between rebuilding the 5T for Su, getting another project for myself and getting all the bits sorted for next weeks refurb of our driveway and front garden i finished off painting half the parts for Alans 6T
Nice shiny new sprocket and chain and a new Pirelli Sport Demon on my Bonnie. I'm sure it's just phycological but it all feels much tighter and crisper to ride.
Solo trip to Aberdyfi today (Helmut is working), through some of Snowdonia National Park; I fancied seeing the sea. We’re landlocked so it was about 220 miles ridden - beautiful weather, great roads and beautiful scenery too; a superb day out . It wasn’t raining but clearly had been as the roads were pretty wet with water running across them in places so my bike is FILTHY . I don’t have many photos as I stopped briefly on the way there for a quick leg stretch and once on the way back for a quick coffee but it was a stunning ride in the main.
Well, that was a bugger to get out. My tube pulla-outa didn't work this time (good job I never patented it) So I threaded it but the flared section broke away. Got the little bugger using the long threaded bar and nut secret weapon, that'll teach it - straight in the bin
