@Helmut Visor and I went to a local car / bike meet today, he on his Aprilia as it was Italian - themed. For a while, the focus has become cars, with bikes parked in a separate place out of the way which can be annoying when you’ve made the effort to go, but the place is under new management with the new manager interested in bikes, so hopefully that will revive the “bike” side of things. There are plans for bike nights next year which will be nice as there is nothing around here apart from this Sunday meet once per month. Helmut is on duty for work so I left him on our return home and went out for an additional 65 miles or so. Turns out we are the the only spot without stinking weather so I got cold and wet but still had a good time…the state of the bike when I got back couldn’t be ignored though, so I got changed and cleaned it (with Helmut’s volunteered assistance which was very nice indeed!!).
Weather better than forecast so out for a nice ride and sausage n chips, met up with some friends Dave n Ali out on their monkey bikes at Poole Quay.
Well decided today with the mixed weather forecast to go for a ride but stay around home if need be to come back if it turned bad. Went for a run through the lanes on the 675r and text my mate to say coffee at JnS Doncaster 15.00 if free, as I knew he was shopping with the wife earlier Well two Ducatis turned up, him and a neighbour So a coffee and chips plus chocolate and ready to go for a blast through the lanes.
Unfortunately the above ride didn't quite end there and there was an incident on a left hand bend. I was directly behind the rider and so first on the scene and he was so lucky to avoid a substantial RSJ gatepost. It looks like his helmet has saved his life and is only a few weeks old; severe impact above left eye splitting the Simpson shell but looks to have done its job. Don't scrimp on your helmets guys as it's easily taken for granted.
Always sad to hear a fellow rider has had an off. Really pleased his kit saved him any major injuries.
I change my helmet at least every 3 years to avoid possible material fatigue. As long as most manufacturers also have warranty.
After 3 months of great weather it was forecast for rain all this week glad to say they got it wrong! (although it rained non stop last night which is fine) 23c today so not bad old pump
In preparation for my Europe trip I purchased the Eurolite stickers today and looking through the extensive instructions there is no mention of motorbikes, but every car you can think of. So here is the question; has anybody ever used the stickers on their bike to correct the headlights when touring in Europe?
i guess if your not planning on riding in the dark you won't really need them, but they must be available somewhere, Mr Google is your man!
I suppose you've checked you actually need them? Many bikes just have up/down dipping, no more dipping to the left (or right).
That's what I thought. Been to Europe loads of times on various bikes and non have needed the headlight adjusting because they have a flat beam.
The weather forecast for this week (and next) doesn’t look very inspiring, so thought I’d get out today and make the most of the blue skies before the clouds rolled in later…
Thanks for the responses guy’s. I have never used them on any of my previous trips into Europe. I was going belts and braces following brexit. Not planning on riding at night, so I think I will just put them in my tank bag and see how it goes. If I don’t need them I will put them in the car for my next car trip in to Europe.
Just a quick update.... The rider who crashed yesterday has been, quite unbelievably really, released tonight from hospital and is now home with a bag of medication. Considering his post accident condition this is great news. Although a contentious issue amongst some, restriction of choice and freedoms etc. it just goes to show the validity of the introduction some years ago of UK helmet laws in fatality reduction.
The gatepost in question....... padlocked and chained gate obviously now opened so not in view The bike landed upside down where the guy in jeans is and the rider was 4 metres or so "directly behind the RSJ".
