Even though a speedo isn't required I like to have one that sort of reads close to what I'm doing. There's no axle drive on the chop and having removed the earlier engine with the speedo driven by the gearbox I've resorted to another electronic gizmagoid. Wheels and forks of a Harley means fitting of the sender is quite difficult, there's no accessible bolts on the disc brake side to mount without drilling and threading the sliders and also I would need to drill the mounting bolts to take the magnets. As there's 5 mounting bolts I either have to have 1 or 5 for the speedo to read correctly and I don't want to drill all 5. The other side, although having some potential mounts on the slider I would have to drill the hub for the magnets - so that's out then. So, any old end up, I've mounted it on the back sprocket. Again 7 mounts so either 1 or 7. Drilled the sprocket and put in the magnets, Bolted the sender bracket and sender to be within 8mm of magnet (looks a bit scruffy but I'll sort something when it's proven to be working) And have fixed the little 48mm speedo with a black face. Bit of wiring to do. These need a permanent live (don't really like that but it seems ok on the Bonny). Thank you very much and good night - I think I've got one of those really annoying sharp pieces of metal stuck in my thumb but can't see anything. I'll have to have a dig about with a needle
Nice 100mile ride with TRMCC taking in some local twisties and trying a new cafe. Highly rated spot with art and trinkets available for purchase. Great spot with off highway parking
Is your chain ok? A couple of the links look stiff. Does it need tightening? Edit: although is could be an illusion as they maybe haven’t left the rear sprocket properly.
It's the latter, mate. I cleaned and lubed it thoroughly when I returned from France. All in good nick. I reckon the lube sticks a bit.
Covers off, washed and polished ,took some doing as I lathered it in ACF50 as I thought I might ride it in the winter but didn’t, now ready for this lock down to end
Dartplayer - looks really nice and am looking forward to be let out to play again with, I thought, a very shiny newly rebuilt bike... Chris - luvly and polished... Just what I thought I was gonna be doing today. But, oh no, petcock decided to leak, float bowl and banjo decided to leak and don't know if speedo is working correctly (hopefully I'm not getting enough speed up just spinning the back wheel by hand) so instead here's a picture of Grommet. You would have thought he could've fixed it while I wasn't there, he's got nuthin else to do
I am no expert, but it won’t work I presume if it’s not fitted to a bike and plumbed in? Have been wrong on many previous and future occasions. Edit: Gromet is a sanctimonious mongrel who doesn’t respect Wallace’s innovative and unorthodox zeal.
@Cyborgbot you dogist twat you, Gromet is of the highest pedigree and is far superior in intelligence to that prick Wallace.
Not done yet, but getting ready to flush the brake fluid and install new EBC double H pads. I’ll be using the vacuum pump method, but can’t figure out one thing. Some say I need to have this done by a dealer due to some techno-wizardry involved with the abs. I know it may not get all the fluid circulated through the pump, but my dealer is over two hours away and I’d prefer to do all my maintenance myself. Any thoughts, or just do the job as I intended?
"Oh! It's you." said Florence Leaky petrol tap done (twice - watch those new ones, the levers are slightly smaller), leaky twin carb and inlets replaced with a single for the Tiger head off the shelf that's already sort of running ok. And it started ok Chain adjustment done and put up on jack and ran in gear - and - and - yes the gizmagoid electronic speedo works ha ha ha - fuckin goody gumdrops. I have a very unusual feeling - it's not indigestion, it's "thank fuck for that." Also had time for the photos for the insurance people. I can get back onto the others soon - hooray. Gotta do some arty farty stuff first
Whats the worst that can happen.... apart from riding to the dealers with no breaks . Should be fine I think, there might be a small amount of fluid in the abs pump that dosnt get drained, thats all.
Gone ahead and flushed the brakes. Fluid wasn’t dirty or cloudy, just a bit dark. It was an easy one person job using a vacuum bleeder. Next a set of new pads front and rear and cleaning up the calipers. They don’t look too bad at all, just a bit dirty.
Rear brakes done. Pads on both ends were getting a bit thin. New ones have a good bit more meat on the bone.
