Had to go to the office in central London today so took the bike for its first proper ride in my ownership 150 mile round trip which is a great test ride for a bike through country roads, small towns, motorway, and inner city. The Thruxton handled it all really well particularly pleased with its ability to cope through the stop start of central London Also gave me a chance to try out the new Bell open face and summer gloves - both performed admirably A21 service area on the way back - just realised that picture could have been taken anywhere
well, someone in a car either came in too fast or couldn't wait to get out according to the tyre (tire...) mark.... That's hastings (ish and mayfield) for you! (I used to live in both btw!!) Gorgeous bike too!
Today, like half the motorcycling population of England it seems, I headed up to the Peak District and did a couple of loops of Snake Road --> A628 --> Mortimer Road (AKA The Stines Road); one loop in each direction. As I find motorways and dual carriageways equal parts stressful and boring, I took the scenic route to get there, so all in all, over 7 hours in the saddle, with another 3 hours in rests, picnicking, and taking in the scenery With the perfect weather it was a totally wonderful day. Probably the best motorcycling I've done outside the Scottish Highlands Seams the replacement seat is slightly more comfortable than the old one, though that may be just down to taking regular rest stops and paracetamol
I’ve fitted a small rack to the back of the scrambler 1200 today I got it in the deal with the bike but at the time I said I’d fit it when I needed it,in the triumph fitting instructions it says to remove the rear mudguard but I did it without removing it by bending the grab rail outwards ever so slightly, the rack weighs no more than the grab rail, I’ll test it out tomorrow with a flask and sarny in the Yorkshire dales.
Orally, for the back ache. Regular breaks prevented any numb bum. Also started out with ibuprofen with breakfast to make extra sure . Oh for a younger, slimmer body...
I had a ride around the Yorkshire dales today not many bikes out, cracking weather, we stopped near pen-y-gyent for are sarny and drink.
Been cleaning all the bugs off the front of CERBERUS and thought while I’m at it I’ll clean and oil the chain I haven’t got one Feckin brilliant
Well, took Mrs Owl out for her first longer test on the Rocket and gladly she hates it . Was only out for two hours. So will be getting a second bike after all. Her poor little bum was not happy on the back of the Rocket. Great news!
Early morning ride out via Bibury. Really odd to see it deserted as usually packed with tourists. An old lady was walking her dog and stopped by the bike, I thought she was going to have a go about hooligan bikers but instead she said it was lovely to see a british bike rather than all the foreign stuff and then reeled of a list of all the british bike makers.. Pays to ride a Triumph (even if it was probably made in Thailand....)
Took this at really long range on my phone today so pic is crap. Made me smile though, as these 3 are sitting beside the keep 2 mtrs seperation sign.
Friday shopping. Also stopped at Triumph to pick up a tank pad and have some free coffee and biscuits. Couldn't help but notice a new Rocket 3 GT so my wife had a sit on it - massive. Then I had my turn - physical dimensions were perfect - bugger! Went for a bike ride through the City this evening at about 2030hrs - streets deserted. Beautiful cool night and a fantastic short ride.
I wanted to change the throttle grip to one from a Speed 1050 to cure a snatchiness problem, but it wouldn't fit. I am sure I read somewhere that this was a straight swap but I suppose the cables will need replacing too then.
