Ok so not quite technically today but the first commute on the street twin tomorrow

 

Work appointment near Chobham today so ended up at Newlands Corner for lunch.

Cheeky MV Agusta Brutale 800 Dragster one side and Norton Commando the other.

 

That Commando is just LUSH !!!!!

 

The Norton looks like new amazing condition.

Electric start with a kick start ??has both

 

took the Trophy out today. Went out to lunch with my ex colleagues. It was a lovely ride 110kms there and back.

 

Ha I was there around 3, stopped for a pee after picking Doris up from service. The Norton was there and left just before me! I parked next to a blue tiger!! I think it was pointing the other way tho!

 

Picked Doris up from service and MOT today, first time I'd ridden her with the oem exhausts on, I thought someone had put an electric engine in her she was so quiet!! So spent the afternoon swapping the pipes back re-mapping and putting new hagon shocks on, aaaah that's my girl!!

 

finished rewiring the back end of the Trophy's loom. All looks tidy now, no more random wires and running well. Just the fuel tap to repair, carbs to balance and valves to check then good to go at last

 

Shame I missed you - must have left about 10 minutes before you arrived - I could have said hello to Doris!

 

We didn't stay long, she was embarrassed about her lack of noise!

 

That was relatively common for Brit bikes of the period. The manufacturers needed to show that they were 'modern' bikes but didn't have faith in electric starts.

A kick start is a handy thing mind...................................................

Yep.....for once the bike was quieter than the owner!

 

Yes as modern bikes have more battery problems than the older ones I hate this and they call it progress.

 

Modern Enfields have both - apart from mine as the previous owner removed the electric one!

 

When electric start was new back in the 70's. Most bikes still retained the kick start lever. I guess bikers were sceptical of the new fangeled electronics. My Honda CB750 and Suzuki GT750 had both.

 

I had a SR500 Yam...it didn't have an electric start as the compression was too high. It had a valve lifter & a sight glass with a white mark inside the head which told you when it was in the right position to kick bloody hell out of it. Like British bikes if you got it wrong it would let you know by kicking-back despite a clever idea put in by the Japanese that was supposed to disengage the kick start when it reached the bottom of it`s stroke. Bruised legs were not common but when she went, she went!!! OUCH!!!!
