You should have done it man - it's liberating! ;-) Glad to see I'm not the only one to have got frustrated with kicking bikes over - top man Dawsy! DS
You got a good one Dave. That’s lovely full of 70’s/80’s gorgeousness. The one I had was the model before that. With a rounded tank and it was sparkly orange in colour. I believe it was the RD250B (B for Bastard). It looked lovely though.
Yes the round tanked models looked far nicer than my coffin tanked 1977 model ‘D’ although it wasn’t registered until 1978. So it now qualifies for free RFL and doesn’t require a MOT either because it’s over 40 years old
So Nikki this dropping bikes on their side or wanting too is nothing new then I thought it had been a fad for just a couple of years
I have another similar tale which I shall divulge at some point. Also resulted me on the floor with a bike on top of me. Yikes I do have a habit of this
Yes it was exactly like that. P reg it was. Kept it for only about 6 months or so. They’re probably worth a fortune now in that condition
Dave I know you are the soul of discretion and to save my embarrassment would never tell anyone. In my defense the bike had a mechanical problem resulting in the above incident.
You can have some fun on those old 2strokes cos you have to ride them, not like modern bikes were the bike does everything for you. They’re more engaging to ride
It took me a very long time before I bought another 2 stroke and to be fair that one was ok. That was a Vespa Rally 180 scooter. Kept that as a toy for quite a long while but sold it as you couldn’t really ride it anywhere. It was too slow for the motorways, so all you could was pootle around the streets locally. Oh and it vibrated like the worst vibratery thing that ever vibrated. Used to make my fingers go numb.
Dave my VStrom has never made me a cup of tea, nor righted itself when it was laid on my foot, so not quite sure I accept your statement that a modern bike does everything for you
@BonnieCat That reminded me of my KH250, my first proper bike. I rode it to see Iron Maiden at Lancaster University in 1981, good gig by the way! The kickstarts shaft splines were a bit worn and sometimes the kickstart slipped on the shaft. Anyway, came out of the gig, thousands of rock fans milling about, and the kickstart finally gave up the ghost and dropped off. No worries, I will bump start it, so I pushed the bike up to decent speed, jumped on and let the clutch out and went flying over the other side of the bike on my arse in a tangled mess. I left Lancaster to the sound of laughter!
Why would you want Waspy to right itself when it’s laid on your foot when there’s knights in shining armour to right it for you
1976 triumph tiger 750. swapped CB900 Honda for it only kept it for about 4weeks it was a disaster from the moment I was supposed to pick it up from the dealer kicked it up blow the base gasket out. dealer fixed it picked it up a week later. The silencer fell off on the way home got home put a spanner on every nut and bolt. Every time out something fell off. I clean and check my bikes every week and with the tiger tightened every nut and bolt up. The last straw was the carb bowl falling off 10 miles from home. Took it back to the dealers got my old 900 back. All ways regret not parking the ba88ard in the local canal. It was a low mileage, excellant condition bike but guess the mileage and condition was because it never stopped in one piece for long enough to do any mileage.
