Don’t ride a push bike myself, but I don’t think going 7 miles on one is a challenge. Why all the fuss, he was on a pedal bike for feck sake

I've done numerous mid Summer "days out" to Scotland on the ZZR usually on a Sunday with a 5 am start when the roads are practically deserted. Up as far as Loch Lomond, then over to Loch Awe in A&B, back down to D&G and a run down the superb Dalveen Pass to New Galloway, past Clateringshaws to Stranraer, then back to Dumfries and the M74 and home. 798m is the longest one I did. The Z is reasonably comfy for a bike of it's type but I was gladof the Airhog seat!

You really couldn't write it. Almost worth paying to be a subscriber just for the face palm emoji. Not quite though......

You're right Ade, but what claptrap was that from Mat Shithouse or whoever he was? Not even Doublespeak, just plain old horseshit :grinning:

My main point was not so much about Johnson's bike ride as about the outstanding clarity of Malthouse's advice: "It depends where you are. Seven miles will be local in different areas and at different times."
    Wtf?

During the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918, the average age of someone who died was 28. I wonder if all the elderly people then said fuck the young we are ok.

It took the Mistral Straight at Paul Ricard for me to wind my old Yamaha over 150mph. My, how the world flies past at that speed!

Fabulous. I've done some of that route and now I want to get out and do it again. More summer and less lockdown. please!

Kit Malthouse's opinion on what is "local" is immaterial. The law doesn't say that exercise must be local.

    Go to www.gov.uk
Click on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) link at the top of the page
Click on Find out what the rules are
Scroll down and click on Exercising
Note the use of the word "should":
    Exercising
You should minimise time spent outside your home, but you can leave your home to exercise. This should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area.

No law uses the word "should". Laws tell you what you must do, or what you are required to to, or what you cannot do.

Now scroll up and click on Summary: what you can and cannot do during the national lockdown
    It says:
Summary: what you can and cannot do during the national lockdown
You must stay at home. The single most important action we can all take is to stay at home to protect the NHS and save lives.
You should follow this guidance immediately. This is the law.

Note the implication that it is the law that you follow the guidance.

Now click on the underlined word "law" on the government website.
You will be taken to The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (All Tiers) (England) Regulations 2020.
Scroll down and Expand PART 1 Restrictions on movement
Click on 2 Exceptions: leaving home

    The LAW says:
2.—(1) These are the exceptions referred to in paragraph 1.
Exception 1: leaving home necessary for certain purposes
    (2) Exception 1 is that it is reasonably necessary for the person concerned (“P”) to leave or be outside the place where P is living (“P’s home”)—
    ...
    (c)to take exercise outside—
    (i)alone,
    (ii)with—
(aa)one or more members of their household, their linked household, or
(bb)where exercise is being taken as part of providing informal childcare for a child aged 13 or under, one or more members of their linked childcare household, or
(iii)in a public outdoor place, with one other person who is not a member of their household, their linked household or their linked childcare household
    ,

Note the absence of any mention of distance or number of times or duration or the word "local".

Read the remainder of The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (All Tiers) (England) Regulations 2020 to see if there is any reference to distance or number of times or duration or the word "local" in relation to leaving your home.

    Ask yourself whether Kit
    - is deliberately misleading the public
    - is too stupid to read and understand the law
    - doesn't know anyone who can explain the law to him
    - is just lying.

Is there an 'all of the above' option?

And if we all follow what “Should” be adhered to then the Government won’t introduce new laws so that we must.

You should eat your 5 a day.

I think anyone who doesn't should be arrested. After all, poor health and obesity could lead to illness that might overwhelm the NHS.

A47, on the way to great yarmouth and on the fz750 in 1988 was my first 150. Well, indicated speed but in my book, it counts!

I don’t disagree, but some seem to be taking the piss. The problem is the “rule’ isn’t clear and can’t be enforced. IMHO I would suggest stating a fixed distance would be easier to both follow and police.

I've got a certificate for doing 120+ on the Queens Highways, admittedly it doesn't quote the actual figure*, just 'Excessive Speed'

*I did have a witness to the event though who did state it was '120mph and accelerating' according to his official timer, a statement which was witnessed by my solicitor and the rest of the court :)
