Ive given up on the dog insurance scam. The last 3 years premiums, 8,9,10 years old... £300, £600, £1200 for 3k of cover. Nearly paying 50% of nominal cover value in premiums....... Pattern was the same with both dogs, one is a year older than the other. Tesco pet insurance for context. When they were up to 5 it was £120 a year.

I found the same thing with pet insurance here in the U.S. We had insurance for Louie, the boxer we had before Annie. Prior to Louie we had Gracie, also a boxer. Gracie had many health issues, and mostly expensive ones and we had no pet health insurance for her. So when Louie came into our family we decided to get insurance. The problem was--it seemed that none of his health problems seemed to be covered. :( And none of the ones we filed on were preexisting. So after Louie Mr. Sandi and I agreed on no more pet health insurance and we just try to build those (inevitable) expenses into our budget. I'm certainly glad that our own human health insurance has been better than the pet coverage we had!

I sometimes think that some vets prolong the lives of terminally Ill dogs (usually ones that are insured) when the kindest thing would be to put the animal down.
A friend had a bearded collie with cancer, drugs kept it going for about a year but it was no life, the dog was like a zombie.
I don't think the vet acted in the interest of the animal, just thought he could tap the insurance for few quid more.
Its this kind of thing that pushes up the cost for all of us.
