Fanny by gaslight First time I heard this title I thought it was about a Victorian knocking shop What does fanny by gaslight mean? "Fanny by gaslight" was a WW2 phrase created by the British Royal Air Force. The meaning and uses of this was a term for aircraft landing with only candle lights on the landing strips/runway to guide their landings.
Quite right I have a copy of the novel by author Michael Sadleir. But the airfarce have their interpretation and who am I to argue, I still prefer the knocking shop idea

The old 22nd of Foot. I was with Bonking Bob in Bosnia. Another MP I would not cross the road to extinguish with a warm stream if he was on fire.......the lads weren’t a bad bunch.
The "Lightning Conductors" (after the regiment's 2nd Battalion was struck by lightning on 4th August 1899). The Battalion had left Limerick in Ireland and were marching towards Upperchurch at the time, in open country with fixed bayonets. No, me neither. Looked it up!
