A while ago I purchased a relatively tidy-ish TT600. It had a fair few Mars on it, a couple of cracks in the nose that had been repaired and signs of having been gently lowered to the ground , all the sorts of things that you might expect for a cheap but cheerful bike. Mechanically, it seemed spot on but needed a tart up. I did a service on it, changed all the fluids etc and decided over the winter to get the bodywork done. Well I had a disaster with the nose cone, it broke into a dozen pieces when I was prepping it after breaking on a previous repair, so decided to bin off the main fairing in favour of an S4/TT style roadster. I decided a colour change was in order so last weekend I dropped off the tank, rear plastics and mudguard to my pal to paint and picked them up on Sunday. They are currently sat in my spare room with the heating on just allowing the 2k clear to harden a bit more before reassembly. I’ll post more pics this weekend when I put the old girl back together. I’m really happy with the colour choice, it won’t be to everyone’s taste, but she sure will be distinctive!
I’ll just say for now it’s red! Oh what the hell, pic from the spare room. I’ve got to get a Speed Triple fly screen to complete the change but that’s going to be after Christmas.
That’s not quite the colour description I’d have gone for had that been what Triumph had called it instead of Nuclear Red!, but I do like it. It’s very different to the usual colours you see on roadsters.
All (nearly) back together. Looking for a Speedy or Street Triple clock cover to finish it off. I bloody love it!!
Classic Triumph color—or colour, rather. As you know I’m a big fan of the Nuclear Red. The bike looks great!
Thanks mate. I’ve seen a few TT’s done as Street Fighters, but I didn’t want to go the whole hog and start cutting bits off and jacking it up etc. The handling, which is sublime, would have been ruined. I think Triumph did a great job at building the S4 so I kind of wanted to go more that route. The original S4 lights are almost impossible to get, same as the mount, so I had to do something different as I wanted to keep them frame mounted rather than fork mounted and I’ve never seen a TT or S4 in the Nuclear Red, a colour I’ve always loved since I saw it on the 955 Speedy.
As soon as it stops throwing it down outside and we get a bit of good natural light I will pop her outside and get a couple of photos.
In between taking snaps in the garage on Saturday, I took one with the light off and it’s actually come out quite well considering it was pretty dull outside. I can’t wait for a sunny day, but it gives you the idea of just how bloody bonkers this colour is!
Cheers, they were a find on EBay, the new style logo sized at 100mm x 95mm, I got 3 for about £3 I think. Chap threw in a couple of others including the two squarer Triumph decals for the rear panels as well. It’s supposed to be nice and sunny on Saturday so I’ll get her out of the garage and get some al fresco photos if it pans out that way.
Was a bit brighter on Saturday so I got the bike out to get some snaps. I’m quite pleased. Since then I’ve painted the expansion tank satin black to blend it in a bit and sorted the wiring to the instruments and such out. It’s now much tidier.
