It's hard to believe, but the first year on my Triumph Tiger 1200 Alpine Edition is over. I rode till today 20.000 km with it. Every kilometer with it was an experience. I rode my bike in a temperature range from -2 to + 43 degrees celsius. The workload of my trips ranged from short trips to my office in Austria to vacation trips across Europe, which sometimes had to be replanned several times due to Corona. During this time my Tiger never let me down and had no technical defects. ;)

In the following I have listed an overview of the costs incurred during this period.

    Maintenance:
    1.000 km: € 220.-
    16.000 km: € 633,80 (new tyres included)

    Accessories:
Original Triumph inside bags fort he luggage system + tank pad: € 173,46

    Fuel consumption:
3.8l to 5.8l per 100 km depending on my speeding and different roads (country roads, motorways) – The Triumph specification says 5.2l per 100 km, that is realy true!

This means overall I needed about 1.040 l of petrol and payed about € 1.300.- for it (average price € 1,25 per litre). Only in Italy they had crazy prices with € 1.76 per litre!!!

    Fees:
Registration fees: € 172.50 (one time payment)
Taxes and full coverage insurance : € 175.- per month (€ 2.100.- per year)
Penalty for speeding: € 60.- (once the police caught me with a radar trap) :pensive:

I'm looking forward to the next years with my bike.

Following some impressions of my bike.

    Great write up.

Do you not find the bike a bit big around town?

Nice photos too. I was half expecting to see Julie Andrews in the last shot, singing something about a doe, a deer, a female deer…

    Thanks for your comment. ;)

In urban traffic, the weight is in principle no problem. But since I never remove the rack system, the vehicle width is more of a problem. Especially when "slipping through" at intersections and narrow places between other vehicles.
The biggest challenge for me was driving away on a steep passage in difficult terrain, where I had to stop uphill because of oncoming traffic. A hill start assist on the motorcycle would then be quite good as an optional extra.

Julie Andrews had a date with her friend.:joy:

Nice write up and good to hear you're enjoying your Tiger. Here in the UK hillhold assist has been standard on the 1200 and now 1250 GS TE since 2018

While reading your posts with the horrendous costs, I thought to myself that I'm glad to live in Austria.;)

Fantastic and informative write up and terrific photos of your bike, Markus! I particularly liked the photo of your bike in the snow.

I’ve never had hill hold on any of my bikes until my current 2020 H-D Street Glide. I love it! It’s incredibly helpful, especially for a bike as heavy as my touring bike. I wonder if there’s any chance you can get hill hold on your bike as an aftermarket deal?

I will forward your question tomorrow to my local dealer. The Tiger 900 GT of my wife will get the 10.000 km maintenance.;)

    @Sandi T:
My dealer told me, that there is no possibilty to "upgrade" the Tiger 1200 via an aftermarket deal/maintenance. There is no support by Triumph. You can't get the needed spareparts and the softwareupdate via Triumph.

    Nice writing! Interesting.
To compare, here in France, no annual tax, gas price is around 1,55 Euro (95-E10) 1,65 Euro (98-E5) , add 10ct on motorways petrol station. But we have very expensive motorway tolls.
We don't have MOT for motorcycle so far.
Like for everything cons and pros. The perfect place doesn't exists.

That's disappointing, Markus. Might be an excuse, er, reason to look at a newer model one of these days. ;)

Based on my local dealers information a new Tiger 1200 will presented in the next weeks! :):):)
This will be an option for me in the next upcoming years. ;)
