Hi there, I'm looking to buy a Triumph Speed Triple R but If I was to buy one I'd like to know when I change the standard Exhaust on the 2013 Model would I have to take it to triumph to get the bike remapped atall?
Depends on the exhaust. Some say you don't need to but with most you will need to. It's only about £25 and take's about 1/2 an hour.
Yes if you are going for the Triumph Arrows exhaust. Many of the other makes will require a re-map and you will probably find fuel consumption increases. Were you thinking of the low boy or the twin slip on's ?
Don't believe anyone that says you don't need to change the map, you do. If you are looking at non arrow exhausts then Beowulf do a really nice exhaust that goes really well with a black bike :wink:
I've got SC Project twin cans on my '14 Speed. They don't need a remap, look good on a black bike as they are carbon fibre finished and are half the cost of the Arrows. No issues so far to make me think it needs a remap against SC 's advice.
Going for the Arrow exhaust on the low exhaust as had a go on mates the other day. Very torquey and sounds amazing. Thanks guys I think I'm going to have to get a remap
It's all good and as an added bonus as the Arrows are a Triumph OEM part you don't have to declare them to your insurance company :upyeah: I had the right map put into my 2011 Speed Triple and it made a noticeable difference.
My father said to me that I have to declare it as it's a modification to the bike including remapping it.
No you do not for the following reasons. 1) With regards to the exhausts these are shown in the Triumph catalogue for this model and just as you don't have to declare the faring screen, or any other Triumph accessory part that is listed as it is considered to be part of the bike. 2) With the remap for this exhaust, as long as it is completed by a trained Triumph technician using the factory approved map for the exhaust then it is exactly the the same as when they update the fuelling maps when the bike is being serviced. If you start using power commanders and stuff like that is when you would have to declare it. This would be the same if you fitted the quick shifter that Triumph provide to the Street Triple. As long as you have the e stamp on your exhaust and it doesn't have (not for road use) written on it then there isn't a lot the police can do, This comes under the construction and use part of the road traffic act. The only time you may have an issue is when the bike needs an MOT and even then most garages are fairly lenient about this. Or you just put the baffle in for your MOT and take it out when you get back. Cheers Steve
Interesting interpretation of the law. One can only assume you have not read it. The e-stamp is only valid for the exhaust as it was manufactured and fitted, not after you modify it by removing the baffles.
Yep, but people are still reading it and should not think they can claim it is legal when they might get busted for it.
