Hmmm no luck so far, my impact driver just seems to be distorting the groove. Plan B will swing into action, when I work out what it is…..
First of all use a small drill bit and remove the indent used to lock it in place, then warm crank gently, i use a drag link socket and air gun to remove mine, never fails. Best idea if you don't have the tool is to use a local engineering company just remove it for you
Yep, drill the centre punch out first. Blokes I know would have centre punched a second time to show that the plug had been out and cleaned - I've seen them with 3 or 4 punches but I just replace with the Allen key ones now. To get the little puckers out I use one of these that fit the full width of the slot: Rounded off to fit as the slot is rounded in the bottom And then attach to one of these. Hand ones that you smack with a hammer are ok but take ages as the plug is tight all the way out and the bits they supply in the set are rubbish

If you look closely you'll see when you've drilled enough. Get to the bottom of the punched hole so no metal is straddling (that's an excellent word for it I think) the join and you are good to go. If you've got an electric or air impact driver then it'll be fine. I'm always amazed at how outstanding that impact driver is. Those really irritating and almost impossible unremovable nuts just fly off. I honestly had a 6 foot scaffold pole over the tommy bar on the crank on a miserable Harley chop and it wouldn't budge. Borrowed one of these and it came off so easily that I was sure that I'd loosened it before. I went out and bought one the same day. It doesn't come out to play much but when it's let out you'd better be ready to be agogged (another good word)
I have tried this battery rattle gun, it didn’t do the job but then again I did need quite a lot of adapters to get the bit connected to the gun !
Ok it’s taken a while, I had to wait to get the drag link and when it arrived I tried an impact driver with heat but it wouldn’t shift. So rather than spent more money on tools for a job I probably won’t repeat (note probably, never say never!) I gave it to a local engineer and fellow Triumph owner who got the little devil out. I am also having the stripped sump plug repaired, the guy doing it sent me the pictures, I am impressed! So slowly does it but progress is being made.
