All, While checking fluids on my 1996 Trident, I noticed the oil filler cap / dipstick wasn't threading just right... so of course, I tightened it more, and crossed the threads of the filler. I spent the money, and bought a new one (not too expensive). I swapped the o-ring, and carefully tried, and this one too felt like it was starting to cross thread!! Did I bugger up the Al threads on the case (can you even do this with a plastic filler?)? Did I miss something? Even my Harley riding neighbor can't figure this out ^)!! Do I need to chase out the threads on the case??? Any help appreciated.
Sorry, I'm the first owner, and it's always been a plastic filler... that's what makes it so.... strange.
Always been plastic from day 1. Early ones were a fine pitch, later a coarse thread so make sure you have the correct pitch Turn it in reverse until you feel it click then rotate clock wise
