Here's a little video to show the sound I'm getting from Tracey at the moment. It's the vvvvrrrrr noise you can hear at around 2000 revs. It happens when stationery as well as moving, in or out of gear Any ideas?
Hi Steve, how many miles has the bike done ? Is it the ticking noise roughly at 0.12 (that you hear as the camera is moving around) ? I suspect it's the cam chain tensioner that needs re-setting or replacing.
Hi biggy It's done about 14000, it's not the ticking noise but the vvvvrrrrr noise as I rev or come off the revs at about 2000
I've just listened to it off the phone speaker and yes you can't really hear what I'm talking about. When I first did it I used earphones and you can hear it with that. It happens from the first throttle blips at 002, You have the normal triple whine as you wind up the throttle then there's another distinctive sound a bit lower resonance from the normal whine, it increases with the revs but then gets drowned out by the engine. The ticking I think is something else as it doesn't increase with rpm, could be wrong of course, last time I listened to cam chain wear was on a cx500 and it sounded like a tank doing donuts on a corrugated metal rooftop! But maybe the ticking is the adjuster as you say and the noise is the chain on the chain guide!?
If you've ever put a screwdriver between your ear and a cx500 engine with loose camchain and tappets youd think I was being kind to it
Due to somebody on this forum making sensible suggestions, @littleade , I've had some experts take a listen. Possible guide wear, mis-alignment, cam chain adjuster needs resetting, have to take it apart to know for sure, throttle bodies not sitting right or a clamp come loose, Or nothing noticeable!
Saw another mech today, prognoses: induction noise, sprag clutch sticking and stator retaining bolt worked its way loose?!? Where to start?! Beginning g to think it's not cam chain related though!
Are they convinced there is defiantly something or are they surmising there could be something and that something could be..X.?
I surmise your assumptions of the diagnosises of the above could well be surmisations but the prognosis of said surmisations is leading me to pull my f'ing hair out as they are all triumph mechs!
Not to alarm you but a friend had a cam chain type of noise (so changed the cam chain) the noise remained and it turned out to be the little end on the centre pot!! around about 14k too, this was on a 1998 885 speed triple though
