This made me laugh

I remember the first tv we had with a remote, it had 2 buttons on it, volume and channel. You just had to cycle through the channels if you wanted to go back one but it was ok because there were only 5 or 6 on it. The volume on the other hand.... you had to first reach full volume if you wanted to turn it down

 

That's not from the seventies. Childhood obesity hadn't been invented then!

Lucky b@st@rd - we dreamed of having five or six channels. We had three and even they were in black and white!

 

And you lived in a shoe box in the middle of the road...?

 

It had about 5 or 6 I think but only 3 channels actually had anything broadcast on them. Strangely we now have 100 channels and theres f all worth watching on any of them

 

I wish.....

 

I know - some people had a privileged upbringing...

 

We didn’t have a colour tv until the 80’s as my dad was too tight to buy one and too tight to buy a colour tv licence. Scots heritage for me. In fact my mum had a new washing machine in about 1962 and only replaced it in 1988 as dad had passed on so no one could mend it! It was a Hoover Wash Matic which used a square key thing to select what wash you wanted. Every time it wore out he would file the key and tumblers to make it work. Proper recycling and engineering!

Our first video recorder had a "remote". A controller on a three foot cable attached to the unit!

Yeah - we had that conversation. Why teach a dead language rather than one that might be useful in job should they work outside Wales.
