I bought a 74 T150 that had been brought back from the USA. The guy who bought had took it a part and rattle canned the black bits. To be honest the finish was prettyshit so I decided I was going to do it as original.
I sent the frame n cycle parts to fast line coatings in Preston for powder coating. The bike had 9k miles on the clock and the engine had never been apart (thank God lol) While I was waiting for the powder coat parts I thought I would take the motor apart to see how it looked
I sent all the fasteners away for replating and got a local guy to do tank and side panels the bike must have had an easy life as the chrom was all good except for the headlamp shell and rear mudguard. so they were dispatched to Leeds for fresh chrome.
in the meantime I stripped the motor and was very pleased with what I saw inside. it was like new. it was a swine to get the barrels off though took me about 2hrs as I had to make an improvised puller to get em off
Seeing as I had the motor down I replaced all the bearings and fitted a new set of Goetze rings Std size as were the mains n big ends. I checked the valve timing against the marks on the pinions and found they were out a bit so I reset them to get as near to 150 thou lift at the valves.
yeah I even managed to re-use the Filister head casing screws as they weren't at all chewed up. the bike is totally original with the exception of the throttle tube and front master cylinder
Very nice, i always try n save the original parts as well or look for original replacements but it's getting harder.
a spot in Wolverhampton, a mate took them down for me I will try and get the details if you wish Freck
