Went out for a quick blap on the TTR, dry, mild, but very blustery so kept in down to an hour. Still blew the copwebs away. Came back went for another blap in the wife's MX5. 10 minutes in, TWANG, broken roadspring! Have a new one coming. 3rd Jan. Happy NewYear everybody
Done two rears myself on a Mk 3. They all go on the bottom coil where the notched collar stresses the next coil up and removes its rust protection. Doubtless cheaper to fit a notched collar than cut an oblique slring taper........ always when car well out of warranty......otherwise great wee motors.
Have not had the pleasure of renewing rears yet, this is the front left, renewed right front day after snetterton track day a few years back ( too many kerbs) It is 10 years old now (the car , not the missus) so not too upset really
Similar age! The rears are a bit of a fight with tie rods and half the boot lining and top hats needing to come out. Impact wrench a godsend.
Here’s a website that tells you how much longer each day is getting Bit anal but cheers me up https://www.timeanddate.com/sun/uk/newcastle-upon-tyne
Mk111 much better for rust issues over & above mk1 & 2. To be fair it's only covered 30,000 miles. 10 years life span for a road spring, I'll take that.
