    Hi all

I've had my speedy in my garage a few weeks and there's a faint smell of petrol.

I've checked and no leaks - but the smell is stronger at the filler cap.

My previous bike was a 16 Yam without any smell - but my speedy is a 12 plate.

Just wanted to check with the forum if this is normal! I've checked the filler and seals seem fine condition etc.

If its normal I can live with it - if not then I'd rather get it sorted etc

    Thanks all

The filler cap is vented to allow air into the tank as the fuel level drops. I’ve never taken one apart to see what this involves but the principle is that it’s a one way valve, probably just a simple rubber flap?, that passes air into the tank but doesn’t let fumes or fuel out. They can get clogged up with dirt and dust which usually results in them causing fuelling issues due to a vacuum being created in the tank not allowing the fuel to get to the carbs/injectors as it should. Maybe yours is venting both ways and that’s why you’re smelling fuel. Might be worth taking it apart and checking it’s clean and in good order.

Agree with @Yorkshireman, my Tuono very recently was venting from the filler cap. The cause was the fuel breather pipe was blocked so causing pressure in the tank that had to release through the cap. Check and clean out your breather pipe and all should be good. In the short term just open and close your filler cap every day or so to release that pressure until you get it done........mine was left by the previous owner and the resulting fuel seepage from the filler has stained the lacquer and will at some point need a respray :(

Just in case it's related - I had a TEC Monza Cap on mine for a while. It looked amazing but stank the garage out because it's constantly venting!

Do you have an original cap on the bike?

Also check your overflow pipe that it is not blocked as this will force the bike to vent via the filler cap especially if it is in a heated garage.

@GuySal I know this isn't a Triumph tank but this is a quick video of how my fuel tank was cleared at AP Workshops.
