From time to time my Speedy will not start. Turn the ignition on and the dash does its business but fuel gauge shows no fuel and no mileage then when I press the starter button, nothing. Switch it on and off a few times and it will start but fuel takes a while to recover. Any ideas?
The clutch safety switch perhaps? Mine plays up from time to time, a couple squeezes on the clutch lever solves that.
Re the fuel gauge, have you tried turning the kill switch off and on a few times to see if that cures it?
No I haven't but I will do. Just been looking but terminals were tight, no sign of corrosion and no matter what I wiggle (ooeerr) I can't get the fuel gauge to go off.
I stripped and cleaned my kill switch and clutch switch, removed and cleaned the contacts in the starter motor. Some people have claimed the earth contact is the weak point. Have checked and cleaned the starter solenoid wires and replaced the battery because it is 6 years old. Will be out on the bike at the end of the month to test if I have fixed mine.
I have had the bike for nearly four years so the battery is older than that so may be ready for a change.
While we are on the subject @Oldskool do the RS's come with either a seat cowl or a pillion seat but not both?
Mine came with both. It was an ex demo bike. When I first saw it, it only had the pillion seat but the dealer threw in the seat cowl as part of the deal.
