Global Live Launch on the 26/01/2021 at 12 noon, Triumph say it has performance, handling and technology and the ultimate performance naked sports ride. Can't wait to see it.
I just got an e-mail this morning with this information, too. Exciting stuff! I'm trying to stave off the thought of trading my Speed 1050 for the new 1200.
I'm thinking that this is an opportunity to find my third cylinder again. My Speed Triple RS was one of the first to hit the streets back in March 2018 when it was launched. It was an absolute nightmare to get insured as the new model wasn't listed on the insurer databases – and I had to pay almost three times the cost of the 2016 R that it replaced, so I could ride it away. I have learned from this and will wait at least a month before buying one
Like you Mr T, I traded a 2019 Street Triple RS for the 2020 model, and as you say my premium went up a fair bit, if I waited until November it would have cost the same as the 19 model, not sure of the logic in that. Lets hope they have some imaginative and exciting colours for a change.
I wonder how much that will be new on the bike. Will there be a whole new frame or will they build on the old one that has been used since 2011. Not saying its bad or anything, but just fun to know it this is a whole new "platform". And if it is, it must be their last one that's being made as I can only imagine 10 years from now the bikes will be be run by fossil fuel which will be something else in terms of how they build bikes. or... Maybe the 1200 is all battery and the sound is produced by a speaker ;-)
The swing arm is definitely different and looking at the spy shots, the frame looks a bit different also. It's probably pretty close as they got the handling pretty much spot on (according to the reviews) so best to not deviate too much?
I sold the 2016R for £10k and bought for the 2018RS for what...£13k with accessories? Doesn't quite justify insurance going from £360 to almost £900. It was purely because it wasn't listed on the database - it took about a month before it appeared. The renewal came in at around £500 I think. Essex prices are mad too!
It’s gonna have to be verrrrrry good to make me change mine.....but then again , I have had it 2 years now so maybe....possibly, I’ll just take a test ride on the new one to prove how brilliant the 2018 RS is. Er how much will you give me for mine? Er....maybe. Er when are they being released. What colours do they come in, Er ok......I’ll think about it.....one coffee later...Where do I sign.... I never thought I could predict the future, maybe I can ..
It’s got to be a big leap to make me change, my RS is pretty much perfect..honest. We will have to see when the big day comes and start counting our pennies ...! In my view, I would just like a little more wind protection but I do not think that wish would have been high up their engineers priority list. They can make it go faster but how long can you hang on for ?
The frame does look a bit different, the rear suspension, pegs and small changes is noticeable in the spy photo.
Another great thing with a new bike being released is that most stores will try and get rid of the old stock... Maybe its time to pick up a 2020....and possibly spend another 2 year being pissed of that I was tightfisted and didn't get the bike I really wanted
