Hopefully you mean the strap goes around the headstock? It's not a good idea to strap anything to the handlebars!

    Dear @Frecklechops ,

after reading thru the last 6 pages of this thread, I‘d like to contribute the Hessian way of camping.
This I invented at the age of fourteen, traveling my homeland on my Malaguti 50HF...

You pitch up your tent on the well manicured lawn of a nice hotel, roll out your sleeping-bag inside the tent, put a deckchair out in front (don‘t forget the reservation-towel) and then:
Move into a nice room at the hotel and enjoy the roomservice and a nice hot shower!

It worked for me in Scotland as well while @dilligaf was unpacking his trailer...

    ;)

PS: The Nosee’ems where all sitting huddled up outside the tent, scratching their heads....

And now a more serious try at it...
I really think this is a great idea!
And if the weather and the midgies are on your side, this should be the trip of your life!

Just remember: After you finished packing, throw out another 30% of your stuff.

    And then another 30%

We all tend to take too much on any trip. The other inmates said it before.
    It really is good advice.
(Well, at least it saves fuel :D )

Came across this, and I just went for my first solo motocamping trip last week.
Granted, the Aussie bush is a bit of different proposition (with a different set of challenges) than Scotland, but I had a good time.

Got to take the new Tiger off the pavement, and get it a little dirty, and found a spot with a nice river nearby. With no facilities, (have to source & purify my water, make fire etc) I had to be equipped. But that's all part of the charm, and what I enjoy about camping: a bit of 'bushcraft' and reconnection with the outdoors etc.

At least until some 4x4 full of rednecks turned up and camped next to me and (while friendly) stayed up talking until 2am.. ..."how's the serenity" Grrr ;(

I was pleased with my setup, and had thought carefully about it.
    • Lightweight 2p tent
    • Sleeping bag + liner
    • Inflatable mat + pillow
    • Folding chair
    • Basic cooking equipment (tiny stove + fuel, titanium pan, pot/"billy", camp cutlery etc)
    • Change of clothes, camp shoes, very small toiletries bag
    • Folding saw, knife, water purification (Grayl geopress)
    • Lightweight hammock just for fun
    • Food & Couple of beers
    Success! :)
Had everything I needed, and used everything except the camp stove (which was backup anyway).
It was very liberating to have everything required off the bike and to be able to go anywhere and be comfortable.

I remember seeing that a few years ago and they’re not wrong; there were millions of the buggers and they were trying to eat me. Then again, I am very tasty! :joy:
