Took a trip to Sheffield today as a bit of extra practice for Rach before her Mod 2 test on Friday. Stopped in at SMC for a gander, as you do. Haven’t been there for years. There may be a new addition to the family soon...
They've been in there for a while, they're nice enough but like most (all) of the stuff on eBay they are over priced. Edit. I don't know what they are asking now but when last visited they were daft money.
The CBX was THE dream machine when I was a learner back in the early 80's. I passed my test on a Yamaha 250 trail bike in '82 and actually bought a Z1300 (you could do that back then) and thought it was great! This was before I discovered the joys of scratching. Got to ride a CBX some 20 years later, what a dream shattering experience that was. I'd probably think the same of the 13 if I got to ride one today. No doubt the nostalgia trip would be enjoyable but let's face it, these bikes are hopelessly out classed today. No way would I pay what some people seem to think they're worth. JMO
@Pegscraper , It's all nostalgia. A collector's ride. A buyer cares little about the specification sheet anymore. I understand, as I have built several 60's American Hot Rods only to be blown in to the weeds by a modern sports car. Today, any given Yamaha can toast the hot bikes of 1980. While I like to admire and talk old times, I would not buy one. Too much worry, maintenance, and disappointment in the end for me, at least. Others may find it enjoyable and I applaud them.
Frame builders Moto Martin did a CBX engined special back in the day which actually handled very well but it was several times more expensive than the standard bike. I remember MCN doing an article on a test machine. The sound of the six on song was undeniably addictive though, second only to a GP500 on the pipe IMO.
