A really good, interesting and useful trip report, Eldon. I've long since given up with the idea of ever camping again - far too used to comfort at my advanced years - but it's great to see someone doing it and, more importantly doing it THE RIGHT WAY! (in every sense)

I've enjoyed your trip - you should send it to Motorcycle Sport and Leisure magazine for their reader's rides section and get yourself a year's free subscription to the magazine..... I've done quite a few, and it is a good magazine for our kind of riding!

Day rides look for about 1000 words, mid rides like yours are (I think) 2000 words and a good selection of reasonably hi-res photographs.

E-mail the text and WeTransfer the photos to [email protected] if you fancy seeing yourself in print.

I wasn't aware of any of that @ajc400 I'll think about it if you think my trips worthy, cheers.

Right, no promises but I will try and add some pictures NOT previously used but obviously the odd one may slip in.

Them shoes were great and I thought, if I can't fit them in for the ride home at £2.50 I'll just give them away or bin them.

@Eldon What a great trip and stunning pictures. By the way did the blonde injure her hands. Silly girl no gloves.

    Thanks Joe.
She was rubbing her left palm but there was nothing to see, probably slapped the floor when she landed.
I don't understand the mentality of the rider and I always do the buddy - buddy bit and give others the once over.

    No gloves is just stupid.

Well @Eldon I have just spent the last 40 minutes reading your fantastic ride report. I have enjoyed every post which has also invoked loads of memories of places I have visited in Scotland.
The museum in Kirkwall was a real find which my wife and I enjoyed on our trip to the island.
Thanks for taking the time to stop and take the photos and then scrib the supporting story. :)

Miles of roads, just about to yourself, to explore if you get off the beaten track.

A cracking little shop and bakery at Finstoon (Finstown).
A healthy lunch break stop .
Latte coffee with Chilli Mackerel and Strawberry yoghurt for pudding... yum :yum

The view from the Italian Chapel looking NW.
Imagine living here in winter, pretty exposed isn't it?

A view across one of the many lovely beaches, you just need the weather on your side.

To the north of the mainland, what we call Orkney they call mainland, as opposed to one of it's islands like say Eday or Sanday, I passed an art gallery.

    20240922_215213.jpg

The wife is a birdwatcher, and with the shops name it twigged my curiosity.
Now some art gets me, and some definitely doesn't, so I was pleasantly pleased with my initial viewing once inside, bearing in mind this was scouting for a gift for her and not to myself.
This one really caught my eye in it's simplicity although bizarrely they called it " solar geese" whereas I'd say it was Gannets.

Initially I was looking at the original full- size version but as I was on the bike, that wasn't going to happen. These stencils were scaled down and offered as cards with envelopes, so I purchased a few options which would hopefully tick her box
