    Hi all.
I have a 1200 Explorer and a 99' Daytona 955i. I recently had to rebuild the top end after a plug shook loose and bits fell into the cylinder bending valves (Daytona). I had the head and valves, shimming etc done by a pro engineer but did the installation myself. The machine purrs like a kitty cat and everything is fine until 7000 RPM where it coughs and splutters and generally breaks down. I have Tune ECU and it shows no errors. Anyone clever out there have any ideas?

Welcome to the family. Do hit the upload a file button bottom right corner and show the inmates the steeds. Your rev limiter what is it set to as if its set to 7000 revs then the bike is telling you to change gear.
    Regards
    Joe.

Okay rev limit was the wrong choice of describing the issue. It coughs, splutter, farts and jerks when it hits 7000RPM

Not sure you can change the rev limiter on a 99 Daytona. Standard is 10,500 I think.

Then its time to check the fuelling. If the bike has been laid up it may need a good flush through. When doing this check the air filter the plugs and look for leaks in the fuel delivery system also the exhaust side of things. You have one of those machines that will have you tearing your hair out. Those faults are sometime a nightmare to detect.
    Regards
    Joe.

Ta for that. Will look a the fueling and air. It's just weird because all is fine even at around 6900 RPM but as soon as you hit 7000 the brown stuff happens.

If you have TuneECU you could try reloading the map just to take that out of the equation.

Yes if you have tune ecu that is a great start. Just out of curiousity what miles and service history have you on the bike. Just ask as these babies don't like to miss the main services where the tappets are checked.

    Joe.

35K miles Just had all inlet valves replaced and all valves re-shimmed, Double checked after installation of rebuilt head. All 100% I replace The oil and filter every 5k mi.

Then its tune ECU and check for any leaks and the fuel delivery system is clean. If that all fails then one of those valves needs checking for clearance again. They need to be spot on and rebuilds have been known to move settle in different ways.
    Regards
    Joe.

Welcome, Denis Stay safe and post lots of stuff for the duration. Bit of old school theory here. Sounds to me like it might be drawing a bit of extra air on the inlet side. But I'm no expert.
