I removed the cable and soldered the lead as they were already touching, then added the glue you mentioned. Replace all used voltmeter and 11.97 without motor running 14.69 engine running. So i think it's OK?
I totally understand where you are coming from, I'm an ex-mechanic myself but most people aren't and I wouldn't like to have him stranded hours from home with a fault that can't be fixed on the side of the road. I personally like to know my Stator and R/R can be relied upon. He's soldered it now and I hope it is a long lasting repair, and as you mentioned, this repair cost bugger all but time.
