I plan to tour Europe for several months on a Commander, is it necessary to replace headlights? Are they direct beam (symmetrical)?
You wouldn't need to replace them anyway, just a bit of tape in the appropriate spot would do the job.
As Steve says if the dipped beam is flat, you're good to go. If it flares up to the left, the beam is handed and you need to block off that flare when on European soil.
Hi, I was looking for similar info... I will take the bike to France for an extended period and wondered in fact, which part of the headlight was responsible for the flare. According to the parts catalogue, you can order practically the entire light in lego-kit form. I wanted to find out the part responsible for the flare and replace that... rather than buying entire replacement headlights for Europe from Triumph France. If anyone knows if the Rocket III has a flat beam it will save me a lot of googling too ! Many thanks Andy
Andy, found out that the lights on my commander ARE uk specific. They are not sealed beam and the part that causes left hand flare is on the right towards the centre I think. I got a couple of European spec off eBay for 40 quid a piece. Easy to fit 10mins. Rocket speed triple lights are the same and were available on eBay too.
Andy, look at eBay item number 252684343773. These will fit and you can see the difference on the back reflector.
