I also tested a Breakout, I think it's in the top two nicest looking HD's but man I found it to be a dog, granted my first ever foot forward ride, probably not the best to have started on. Came close to buying a Sport Glide, but went entirely off-topic and got a Scam XC, coming from a Street Twin it's been fun, albeit only got 800 miles under my belt. Bought it from Cheltenham Triumph dealer, won't do that again.
I know this is going a bit off topic (is there a "what I tried before buying my Triumph section"?) but I was determined that I was going back to HD having had one (with feet forward) a few years back, and tried Fatboy S (last generation), and Fatboy 114, Fatbob 114 , Breakout 114 stage II and Street Bob 107 stage I, liking the Street Bob the most and the Breakout the least. Before putting the cash down for the Street Bob, I thought I'd give the Triumph Bobber a go and wasn't impressed and then on a whim tried that SS and absolutely loved it. Least powerful, least expensive, most enjoyable. I'd still like a Breakout 117 Stage III even though they are uncomfortable and ride awfully on British roads but they look brilliant. My SS came from Cheltenham and they have been fine for me. What went wrong for you? PM or another thread might be best...
I’ve had two nice ride outs the last couple of days,yesterday I noticed the front suspension wasn’t as good as the rear,the best way to describe it is the front fell harsh through the grips ,I had made some small adjustments to the front suspension but I’ve returned them back to the standard settings, the preload on the 1200 XE is fully wound off so at its softest so I put two full turns of preload on and what a difference no hash feeling over scabby road surfaces, the bikes done 700 mile now and all was well until I turned the bike round on some loose gravel on a steep hill when the rear wheel went from under me, I managed to stop the bike hitting the deck hard and I stopped on my feet but it scratched the arrow can and the shield nearest to the cans, I’ve managed to remove some of the scratches out of the cans but I’ve made it bit of a balls up trying to shift the scratches out of the shield!! But there only scratches and it is a scrambler.
Sorry you had to put her down, but as you said it is a scrambler. Looks like the mirrors passed the test. Are they from TEC? I have just ordered a set ....look great value for money. Also the Booster pump has really improved the ride and gear changing, ( although the bike was already pretty sorted).
yes bug they are tec mirrors which survived unscathed, yes I’ve seen your post on the booster plug it sounds to have sorted your problem, I find my bike fine regards needing a booster plug or not, I rarely stall and it pulls really well, I’ve not found the heat off the exhaust a problem neither but I don’t do any commuting and it’s not been red hot yet,yesterday I tested the bike more in the twisties and it really goes round corners very well,cheers.
I agree , I was out on Thursday , really soaks up the road imperfections. Heat not a problem so far, maybe because my leg I’d nowhere near the shield when I ride.
Installed my decat on my XC, simple to do, 200 miles done today, certainly less heat and a nice deep grumble. I hope its heat reducing ability becomes very apparent when the heat wave comes round. I had ordered some exhaust wrap, may as well use it behind shields, don’t like the look so wont wrap visible pipes. Cant believe how heavy the exhaust is. The Scrambler really is a top machine
that’s nice to know that it does reduce heat,I would see how you go before wrapping exhaust as like you say the look is not for everyone but if you do need it just put it out of site, how does bike run with decat?.
I ecu thingy magijed it and she’s purring like an angry Leopard, sounds good, took snorkel out dont know why, some recon it helps with air flow. Recon its a placebo but seems to be a tad more responsive, recon I’m imagining it due to the sound nevertheless sweet no stalls today, even when coming down to a stop in Sport
Thanks - I set the GPS to the "curvy roads" routing and discovered a number of lanes close to home I never knew existed. It did take me to here :- which I decided against as I had the work laptop in my pannier and later here which it claimed was a road but I wasn't convinced. If I'd not had the luggage and wasn't wearing my full winter riding gear (long story) I might have tried it.

Not particularly - you could likely spray petrol all over that exhaust without it catching fire and it would simply evaporate as it would also need a spark to burn. The auto-ignition point for petrol, the point where it will ignite without a spark, is 280C/536F, and even if your exhaust is at that temp it will likely burn rather than explode.
