And before mobile phones CB radios and walkie-talkies were a more probable hazard due to the lower frequency bands. My 2001 Mini had a recall due to poor earthing of the fuel filler. Toastie!
I do laugh at all this pay by mobile palaver .... I must be getting old The other week x3 bikes pull into a petrol station together. Me old school fill up and go in to pay the cashier with a pocketful of coins (around £15) from various trips. Gloves on, bike started and away from the pump, err what are them two doing 5 minutes later ...... "Ok so what happened?" "Oh it wouldn't take my phone so I had to use a card" And you? "first card wouldn't go through so I had to use a 2nd one". Cash is still king The only time I "pay by mobile" is when I have my youngest with me. Here, pay this and I'll do a transfer when we get home
Like you i'm a cash (dinosaur ?). The problem I sometimes find, which amuses me, is when you get a brain dead kid on the till who can't add up.
Yep been there, I gave a McDonald's cashier the price plus a bit, like say £10.58 ( £10 note plus coins) for a £5.58 bill. She gave me a load of change back plus my own coins Err excuse me, why didn't you just give me a £5 note? Apparently the till said the change was £4.42 so that is what she'd gave me plus my odd coins God help us!
I do still carry cash just in case it's the only way to pay but I have to say that paying by phone (google pay or whatever it's called) is the b*llox. Fill up bike, take phone off quadlock, go inside and wave it over the machine and back out again - don't even need to take your gloves off. Hate queuing behind some old bugger who's paid by cash and is waiting for his change
