yes never had heated grips the wiring looked crap, the relay was drawing power and the extra wires were untidy i had a Gpz 550 a few years ago that i was driving to get to work and back in all weathers for 10 years. 100 miles a day 6 days a week sure could have used them then
Wow checking valve clearance 'since you're there' just mounting heated grips is very admirable, a job I've always feared! To mount mine I just shifted the tank back to tie the wires (which I shortened since they are ludicrously long) and installed the controller at the front, which I think is neat since it's out of the way but still easily usable and visible.
Nice job with the controller - don't fear the valve clearances! (didn't Blue Oyster Cult have a hit with that some years ago?)
she had 2 re bores set of valves, exhaust, new tank and cdi didn't touch the gearbox changed the oil every month with filter. When i retired her the wiring was cracking from going brittle never let me down
Hi guys, just thought I'd add a small piece of advice when putting the grips on. Steal a can of the wife's hairspray and spray a liberal amount onto the handlebar then slide the grip on. This allows you to move the grip about to reposition but as hairspray is effectively glue when it sets the grips wont easily move. This is what I've used over the years.
My Versys has its grips wired through a relay - Kawasaki provide one for accessories that is switched with the ignition so no current draw when the bike is not in use. This was done by the dealer apparently.
