Cheers mate, TBH humour normally gets me through most things, better than mopping about miserable, doesn't mean that I am not pissed off at crashing my lovely RC8 though.
It is a great forum & you are correct it is like a brotherhood, I haven't met most of the people on here but still feel an affinity with them.
Ligament damage means I wouldn't be riding for a long while anyway so will have to have a think about what happens next.

Lets not start going down the same road as when you started the helmet debate eh DD?
BKS Stingray leathers were £899, however I bought them when on sale for £549 which is not bad for the quality, as my complete lack of road rash following my off testifies.

Give yourself a good verbal telling off for not seeing it, not reacting quick enough, not going to different route, or whatever else you beat yourself up about, then remember that we have stuff like this happen, it is part of biking. Actually, part of driving too, but driving is more forgiving.

    Should be fixable right?

Didn't even see the patch, literally just as you exit the roundabout, eyes have to be everywhere on roundabouts!
I know what you mean about beating myself up though, it was a bit of a rush to finish work in time to meet up with my mates for an evening ride, I nearly didn't bother ...

Really sorry to hear about your accident, but I'm glad your injuries weren't more serious. Hopefully, you'll get all your problems sorted quickly. You might check with a physical therapy group to see if they can do anything for your thumb. I recently tore one of my hamstring muscles and my local PT group managed to completely eliminate the pain in a few weeks after 2 to 3 visits per week. I'm convinced that they are just a coven of witches and my soul is in jeporady:worried:

You should be able to claim against the Motorists Insurance Bureau as your accident was caused by an untraced driver. Make sure you have a back up witness or three to the diesel spill as well as your photos. Your insurance company should do this for you I think if your insurance includes legal cover. It is a slow process but it works. You cannot claim for kit or bike - only for personal injury. My wrenched shoulder and knee netted me about £3000 but I had to wait 18 months for it and fill in tedious forms as well as attend an interview and see a specialist (all paid for by MIB). I think you can also claim for loss of earnings but I am retired so that was not relevant.

thoughts with you and your bike... diesel spill is just waiting for 2 wheelers to come along and cause an accident. .. not surprised to read that government departments aren't interested in anything to do with motorcycles but surprised that the favoured 'non powered' 2 wheeler brigade haven't raised a stink about the dangers of diesel spill for them !.. am sure if they did diesels would be banned off the road within a month or have their own diesel lane next to the cyclists only lane ! .. may be one of the few things we could join forces on ? ...hope things getting sorted and you are on the mend.. has unfortunately happened to most of us at one time or another

Thanks to all for your messages on this.
Update, still waiting for final decision that bike is written off, 4th Dimension are Hastings repair agent, they rang last week to say swinging arm was damaged as well so likely to be write off, I rang Hastings today who knew nothing of this! Then call 4th Dimension who day they are the agent & will negotiate the settlement when they have their own engineers report.
Accident happened on August 8th, helmet & leathers insurance have already paid out within the terms of the policy & were very good. Just hope the bike part doesn’t drag on too long. Will keep you posted as it’s nice to have this information when thinking of placing you insurance.

The bike can ALWAYS be repaired or written off. You can't. Be glad you had insurance. Ah, the folly of yoof, when we where young and you bounced off the road, instead of being spread like jam.
Three discs missing out my spine say other wise. Would I do it all again ?, without a moments hesitation.

Thanks Jo, I am sad that a great bike is going to get written off, I did consider buying it back & racing it in NG Club sound of thunder next year, but having seen them race I think it would be a bit expensive. Going to have a go at Pro Stocks Bandit challenge instead. Decided to give up road riding & race instead, at least there’s nothing coming the other way if you bin it!

That's not a cheap hobby either. My boy when he raced you were looking at a grand odd each meeting. He raced in the thunderace series. But glad you are feeling a little better. I know it dents your confidence and if like me you say never again. But it soon get unbearable and away you go again.
    best wishes.
    Joe.

Update - Insurance Company Hastings - Just about did enough!

Sorry haven't been around for a while, really busy doing the w@rk thing.

The RC8 was going to be repaired until they found more damage when the bike was on the bench for assessment, basically the swinging arm was badly gouged underneath and the rad and all the sensors/fan etc was totalled as well as the more obvious damage to the fairings and body work. The Helmet & Leathers part of the insurance paid out really quickly once I submitted the estimate for replacement kit supplied by Infinity, this cover was free with the policy and came with a £150 excess on the max £900 worth of cover, so they paid out the max of £750.
The bike took a bit longer and a bit more haggling, I had paid a dealer £6995 for the bike 3 weeks before, my view was that is what I was after from Hastings, they insisted that what I paid was unimportant and that 'market value' was around £6400, after a bit of backwards and forwards haggling we settled on £6700, once this was agreed and the documents and spare keys etc were sent back they paid the following week.
Don't know how this experience with a claim compares with anyone else's?

I have now bought a bike to do the Formula Prostocks race series next year & will use the money from the write off to fund the season next year, for those that are interested I will probably post my progress in the racing section.
I have booked my CTC ACU licence assessment for Sunday 14th so that I am ready to go for the first round at Brands next March.
I am looking for a reasonably priced (read cheap as it is coming out of my race budget!) box trailer to tow behind the camper next year, if anyone has one for sale PM me.
