WHAT an excellent day! No motorways at all, and I've hardly been upright all day. The bit just before Geneva was fantastic, but just a taste of what was to come. The route des grand alpes proper starts in Thonon-les-bain, and from there on out it was twistie heaven. Unfortunately I had an hours rain, but hey ho, that got my "in the wet confidence" back. Sadly it was very cloudy, so I missed the vistas. And not very good for pictures either, but I tried... 230 twisty miles today.

The other foto's are too large for some reason - I'll have to fix that later...
    But now...

Cheers Samz. The "suspect" :joy: tyre has lost even more "chicken strip" today.. it's amazing what happens when you get in a "flow"...

And all the roads were covered in graffiti, as these mountains were host to the Tour de France last week... I can't begin to imagine having to scale these gradients on a pushbike... :joy:

The sound is crap, and the lens was filthy, but you'll get the idea. Such a shame you can't hear that throaty triple roar...

I did stelvio pass a few years ago with some mates and when we got near the top, there was a guy (and support car) doing it in a wheelchair. Absolutely amazing. The crowd at the top was incredibly loud with their cheering and he cried his eyes out at the top. Truly an incredible sight and moment.

Bagged a couple more since - the Gabardier was great! Stopped now, as 200 miles through these mountains is enough for a day...

Left early this morning for the Col d'Iseran. The highest paved pass in Europe. After that went on to bag some more cols - the weather was fine until 2.30, when I was just about to conquer the Col D'Izoard... it started to pour... just for an hour though, but at those gradients and altitudes not much fun. The rest of today's trip was fine, the roads mostly dry, so fun was had. An excellent day yet again!
