Nothing to do with biking but am off to Angouleme, France tomorrow for work. Here's hoping there are no further lockdowns or I could be proper stuffed. There for the working week, no bike but temps in the 30's.

Nice one dude. We threatened to stay there a time or two but it didn't quite fit the itinerary at the time. Looks a very nice centre, I'd be grateful for pics and a review if you get into town. Bon séjour!

In the 3rd week of Sept every year they have a classic car street race (Race de Remparts), one of the last street circuits. If you're going then that is definitely a good time to go.

One of the things about the place that caught my attention, not that I'm a god botherer or anything, was the cathedral. I've seen a lot of the French Gothic Cathedrals but this is a less common Romanesque style. Be a good place to visit and probably get some cool air ;)

It is also famous for it's cartoons and comics and holds the second largest festival in Europe every January.

Bloody hell, do you know what, I've been there. I remember seeing the cartoon museum, but was so tired I never visited the town. I stayed en route to St Malo when the Santander ferry broke down and I had to ride from the Med coast to Normandy to get home. Just had a crappy microwave meal in the hotel Ibis and hit the sack. I proper missed out clearly. Never made the connection, but I've said before, there's no glory in getting old :grinning:. Envious, it did look nice when I rode in. :)

Been to Angouleme several times on day visits. It's a very nice town and as you would expect, there a lot's of great places to eat. If you get time there's also the possibility of getting out of town and hiring a canoe on the river, a very pleasureable experience.

Angouleme is a nice small town. But not many things do to there after work.
At 1 hour driving Royan is also very nice.
