The North east 250 is a newish Route created due to the popularity of the NC 500,Welcome to the North East 250 - The Ultimate Scottish Road Trip
As it is on my doorstep i decided to do the official route, it actually starts about 1 mile from the Glenshee Ski Centre in the middle of nowhere! they would have been much better starting it from Blairgowrie and calling it the NE 300,no idea why they didn't as it would make more sense.
i started off about 7am so the roads were really quiet, they're usually pretty quiet normally anyway. i stopped off at the Humpy back bridge (don't know what it's real name is) on the road up to Tomintoul for a quick photo

next stop was at another bridge the Craigellachie Bridge for a few more photos
Craigellachie Bridge - Wikipedia The whisky trail is in this area lots of distilleries and lots of great biking roads

i didn't take any more photos of Bridges as i though that would be a Bridge too far;)
i then joined the coast road at Fochabers it goes all the way along to Fraserburgh, I've never done that stretch before, it was interesting passing through all the little villages & small towns some lovely costal views and some nice roads and they were better than i thought they would be as i had visions of single track roads. i stopped of at Pennan where they filmed Local Hero, it is a really steep twisty road down to Pennan

Pennan High St where the young guy in the film was riding up and down

Great route, great weather, I'm off to the website now to do the route. It's true that when the 4 nations of the UK get great weather, we can hold our own in the fantastic scenery department.

i cant remember how i shared that previous route :confounded: their web site is not great for giving a detailed map of the route, but I've stuck up a link, i think you have to log on to myroute-app to view it though

I'll give that a go first then, but if all else fails, it looks simple enough to follow, so it should be easy enough even for me y30.gif

The only bit that could get confusing is the coast road as you have to take several turn offs to get back onto the coast road as it's not a continuous road, thats how it's best to make the route up and stick it in the sat nav :)

@Dougie D Don't ask me how, but I've got the route and it's now in Basecamp. I almost feel intelligent.

Brilliant ride report, @Dougie D! Fabulous photos. :) Reading your report made me want to make the trek (flight actually) to do that ride. I'd have to figure out how to build in some whiskey tastings, though, without riding under the influence. ;) Thanks for sharing your ride with us. :kissing_heart:

We made the same round in 2009 with my wife and also stopped in Pennan.
At the time it didn't changed much since the film was shot, same feeling with your pictures.

Good to see those places again. Thanks for Sharing.

Great ride report @Dougie D. been looking at visiting Scotland in future, looks like a good route to take in. May not be for a while though. Past experience tells me to avoid the whisky tho', we do not great bed fellows. Beautiful scenery in your photographs.

Great ride out and write up, a beautiful part of Scotland for sure. I have very fond memories of winter climbing and white water kayaking around that area, I remember a winter climb I completed on Central Chimney Buachaille Etive Mor, and a few days later Kayaked the River Etive, there were no guidebooks back in the day for river trips and relied on local activist canoeists for information. I have younger friends living on the Black Isle, another great set of roads. Scotland is like the Lake District only on Steroids and not as busy (and a lot more friendly). Keep the rides and photos coming Dougie and ride safe all.
