    Hi All
Thanks for your interest in my Bonnie. I've attached some pics for those who'd like to see it.

Just tried to start the Bonnie in the cold and it just won't catch. It started ok yesterday. I'm at my wits end. Has anyone tried the TTP Firestarter Igniter that seems to be advertised with great reviews?

Hi Sprinter and thanks for the tip.

I did have a look at them when I took the carbs off for cleaning and they look fine. I'm thinking there may be a problem in the ignition system! I've quite a bit of reading up to do.

Once the bike is fired up and warm it runs fine so there can't be too much wrong with it but cold start issues are ruining my biking life at the mo.

Hi all. I emailed TTP about the Fire starter Igniter unit and they say it should help but they can't guarantee that it will solve the problem completely. I'll post when I've thought of anything else.

    Is your oil to thick?
Ignition switch worn would lead to a bad connection, can you bypass to try?

Sounds to me that the bike is running rich.
You say that your bike starts with no choke and with just a bit of throttle and if you use choke with no throttle the engine floods. I would have thought that during winter the bike would require choke if it was set up correctly.
To me that indicates carbs are the problem.

Are the pilot jets the correct size, undamaged.
Is the air filter clean and the correct type.

Is it something to do with the AI pipes being removed with the Norman Hyde exhausts.

    Hi Tiglet
Thanks for your input. The oil and filter are new and as specified by Triumph.
The mixture may be wrong but I don't know how to adjust that so I'll need to get a mechanic to look at that for me.

The idling jets are 40s which is standard and the mains are 115s recommended by Norman Hyde. Both have been inspected when the carbs were refurbished.
The AI was removed before I got the bike. I don't know what difference that might make.

    Hi everyone,

The troubles with my Bonnie not starting are continuing. This morning, in the cold, I decided to try and see if I had a spark on both cylinders.

There is a spark but it seems to be quite weak. It is blueish in colour and seems to alter its position across the electrodes. I fitted new plug leads and coil module but it made no difference. Could the problem lie with the ECU?

    Any pointers would be appreciated!!

Thanks. I tried the bike today and it started first try. It was very cold. Probably 0degC. If the offer is still open I'd like to get the carbs balanced and the mixture properly adjusted.
Let me know when would be convenient. S

Hi everyone. It seems that my bike is a mission and not yet a pleasure. However I think I may be getting closer to a solution to the starting issues.
I reached down into my pocket and found a handy £250 and spent it on a TTP Fire starter igniter unit. I fitted it and I now have a much stronger spark. I still need to get the mixture and balance set up but it started first try in the cold today. TTP said that the old ecu which was nearly 18 years old was probably part of the issue. I'm hoping that once the carbs are adjusted my problems will have been solved.
