Newbi Needs A New Lid

Lovely bike you have there Keith.
Some helmets are far better than others for reducing wind noise. My last helmet was a Shoei GT Air which was a quiet helmet for me. My current helmet is a flip front which is noisier, but with ear plugs all is good, I never ride without ear plugs and they do a great job of reducing wind noise, and I get to use a helmet that works for me.

Don’t think you can fit them to your bike but I’ve got cocktail shakers fitted to my BPOS and can’t hear any wind noise

I have a Schubert C3 Flip. Quietest and lightest helmet I’ve ever owned.
Very comfortable. Highly recommended Schubert lids.

 

As with any helmet thread the golden rule is try it on first. Fit is the be all and end all of it.
Helmets are a very personal thing if it doesn’t fit it not going to save your head.

 

get yourself a set of ear plugs ,I've yet to find a quiet lid,i bought a Shoei Qwest a few years ago as it was getting great write ups for being really quiet...i didn't find it that quiet,I've since bought the Shoei GT Air but again it's not any better

 

The noise levels are relative. You are always going to get some wind and road noise when riding a bike; it is reduced by some helmets to acceptable levels where as others are not so good at reducing the noise. Just my humble opinion.

Noise levels are easily measured, They are measured in dB, as long as they are measured in the same manner then every 3 db decrease is a halfing of the noise level.
In normal riding you can be exposed to the equilvent noise level of a heavy metal concert.
So getting a close fitting lid with a decent low noise level is important.
I would suggest still wearing ear plugs along with the helmet ( particularly those made to measure ear plugs to further reduce the noise level is the best but still an imperfect solution.
As quite a few members on here can attest I am very deaf and that is due to the noise levels I subjected myself to over quite a few decades of riding.

You will NEVER find a helmet to reduce wind noise to an acceptable level while riding that bike because your head has a 70mph draft moving across it!!

 

We all accept that noise is and issue when riding; we all accept it as part of the riding package. The best you can do is to get a helmet that reduces the noise level as much as you can or to what is acceptable to you. And of couse using ear plugs helps as well.

I've got a Shoei Hornet ADV and an HJC RPHA 11. Both pretty quiet in comparison to cheaper helmets I've owned over the years.

I think with more expensive helmets one of the things you are paying for is better design hence quieter noise figures.
Cheaper ones it’s just what it takes to pass the relevant standard.
